building your own lifting platform...

building your own lifting platform... for EF's olympic lifters

as mentioned in my log here on EF I am going to dismantle my power rack and
put a oly lifting platform in this room instead. the length of the room is about
5m and its width 2,9m. I was thinking of a platform with 2,9mx2m but which
way should I face? Should I go for more space in the front and the back of
me but with only little space on my left and right (the bar would be around
30cm/13" away from the walls) or the other way round?

another question that still bothers me is about the area where the plates hit
the ground. is 1mx0,5m of the safety mats I usually use enough or should I
go a little wider like 0,75m or even 1m? a fully loaded bar is pretty much 0,5m
so I think a little extra space wouldnt hurt...

which kind of squat rack would you recommend:

since space is an issue I am thinking of the single posts but what do you think

Don't you already have a room with rubber matting that you drop weights in?

If you do build a platform, all you will ever need is a pair of racks that you can move around. The first pair of racks, uh "Free-Rack aus der BARBARIAN Line" would be your best bet since they look much sturdier, and are the moveable ones like I was saying.

The moveable ones would also be good if you are in a tight area, since the joined ones would always have to be there and could be dangerous if you loose a CJ for example.
