Buddy aged 40 wants to start BB

As a old guy myself -47- with many years training - my main sugestion would
be to start him off slow. He should make gains but hitting it to hard to soon
will only get him hurt or to sore to train. Start slow and slowly increase. He
should be in it for the long haul so he has lots of time.

Granddad may look into HRT vs juicing too,
I'm 45 , guess that makes me great granddad so yea I can talk.
I've progressed from HRT and considering a BB cycle now.

He also has to be careful, most physicians throw hormones at women when the turn 35 but most doctors don’ts know crap about male menopause. I had all the symptoms of Andropause, but every time I got tested they would say, “Oh, your normal, take a good multi-vitamin” Bullshit , my T levels were hovering at ~240-260, normal is about !~250-850.
So yea, I was normal, Normally tired, Normally depressed, Normally no sex drive, you can live like that but it’s NOT Normal !
So when I confronted my physician he said, “OK , let’s start you on HRT.” Well now that I’ve been reading up on the subject I’ve learned he was yo-yoing me badly, like 100mg Deca every 4-6wks which will screw you up more than help you. Then coincidentally when all the bad press started about MLB recently he said as long as I tested in the range he would no longer prescribe AS.
The moral is, HMO doctors are about CYA, not your health. So learn as much as possible, The Testosterone Syndrome by Eugene Shippen & William Fryer is good but honestly I’ve learned more on elite boards than anywhere, no one knows better than those at the center.

Kudos Elite , thanks too to all the vets and mods,

And to solidspine, Hooya! us old codgers still have it if we work at it, that makes me feel pretty good, I may still have a few years left after all / Rock on bro!

Older people taking it easy, it's all crap.
I know someone who did his first cycle at 51, and made pretty good progress.
Even people in their 70's benefit from strength training (i.e. exercising with 80% of maximum they could lift). Studies have shown that.
Those old ideas about older people are rapidly changing.

A work mate has just turned 40 and is going through a midlife crisis and he wants to start BB, he has lifted before when he was in his late 20s, but 40 i dont know if he will get anywhere since most of the bodies growth hormones are on a decline, he says that hes open to suggestions meaning that he will try AAS after maybe a year or 2, hes no slouch and plays squash, runs and does a lot of cycling, generally pretty good shape, but BB and juicing are a completely different matter, anyone any advice to offer, thanks.

Never too late. I did my first comp at 35. Its not so much "starting BB" as just getting into the gym & lifting.

If it does anything for ya, at my first BB show there was an over 80 category for men & over 70 category for the women. I think the bigger part of the comp was just getting up on stage at that age in a posing suit. These poor guys just need to remember to turn up their hearing aids so they can hear the pose calls.....
