Breakfast help...

I eat breakfast at about 9:30am and work out at 11. I'm trying to figure out the best breakfast...Right now I'm usually having:

3/4 cup oatmeal
1 scoop whey
little bit of yogurt
some egg whites

Comes out to be about 400 calories, 40g protein and 50g carbs.

I'm 5'9, 135 (trying to get bigger). Am I overdoing it on either the oatmeal or the protein?

I vote no, not at all. However, I don't think you should not eat again before you workout at 11. I would throw in a shake or something immediately pre-workout.
Also, where are your fats in this meal? I would include some ANPB or something.

its solid bro..............1-1.5 hours before is optimum.........I'd vote for saving your shake til post workout........

If he's looking to bulk and doesn't eat within 1-1.5 hours of working out, wouldn't his body be then working off of his storage and not the food he put in his mouth? Wouldn't he then be burning off instead of building up?

I wouldn't ever eat less than an hour before my workout. I shoot for 1 hour and 30 minutes before workout. Eating under an hour means my workout will be crappy because I am digesting the food still and I am not at 100%. I think someone posted awhile back that it is because a lot of blood is being used to digest your food.

YES!!! I remember that now. Duh... excuse me for my moment of retardation...

I just took a class today in Boston with the YMCA (aka Fitness for Dummies - no offense to any Y people in here...) and they started talking about eating before your workout... I was sitting there thinking, "wtf, I remember that now... I can't believe I posted on that thread the way I did..."
Isn't that sick?! In the middle of my seminar, I'm thinking of the EF board... what has happened to me??????

In any case, thanks boys for correcting my wrongness... I love you all
