Break Down of HIT training?

Lee

New member
does anyone have a good link to a break down of HIT training and a full explenation of the pros and cons of the program? ive found a few sites but nothing too in depth.

HIT trains on the erroneous assumption that momentary muscular fatigue is a good way to grow muscle. So they only have you do one or few sets because as you get tired the intensity is unproductive. So HIT will have you squeeze it out until you drop, and then if you get 1 more rep the next time, supposedly you're growing.

oh and you wait a while in between workouts, which is bad.

pros - it's really simple and sounds sort of scienc-y
cons - it isn't really based on anything real, and isn't that effective

i c. well ive tried standard 3x8 system. 5x5 was good. but im lookin for a good lifting style for when i get back into the gym. should i just go back to 5x5? i train for mass and strength, i dont focus on just one. i would like to put on about 40 pounds of muscle. if i can do that in a good amount of time im goin to try to do a walk on to a college football team as a Defensive lineman or linebacker.

Lay out 40lbs of steak on a table. 40 pounds of muscle is a massive undertaking and a complete body metamorphosis. A 40 lbs total gain and a reasonable level of bodyfat might be more realistic but it's still a major undertaking and unless you've been starving yourself or dropped some major weight recently likely to take a considerable amount of time (even with copious amounts of anabolics).

You could read some of the info in this thread and the links included - along with the reprint info in the first post I put a bunch of stuff towards the bottom of the first page.
