boxers fracture

i fractured my third metacarpal about three weeks ago and i tried to go to the gym yesterday and it wasn't happenin. should i go back to the doc or just wait it out with the splint they gave me...?

Thats in your palm area or the tip of your finger? Not sure which way the 1st, 2nd and 3rd go. Since its hurting you im guessing it is in your palm. You can still do legs but I would definitely avoid and heaving pressing and pulling movements.

its the middle finger and i slightly cracked the head where the finger meets the hand, its still sort of swolen in that area. its hard to wear my splint right now tho cause im in the middle of finals...

I've had a similar fracture (different finger - knuckle rolled under into the palm, took 3 casts to reset that thing properly). I don't know the severity of your injury but I'll tell you flat out that even without the case lifting on it and holding weight is going to hurt the healing. Even after it was healed I had discomfort bench pressing and performing other movements - granted mine sounds more severe than yours. Ironically, I was also in college and in exams while I had my cast on.

ya they didn't cast me, i think i slightly pushed my knuckle back but not that bad, im having trouble straightening my middle finger but the swelling has gone down tremendously. im thinking probably another two weeks in the splint sounds good enough.

rest, ice, compression. elevation isnt too practical for a hand, but dont let the blood pool into it.

if you want to heal, dont use your hand. all you will do is injure it worse.

how do you suggest of putting compression on it cause all they gave me was a removable splint with velcrow straps and it doesn't apply that much pressure...?

its kinda tricky for a hand, and the splint they provide should offer enough pressure. i would personally just wear the splint and call it good. you dont need much pressure at all, too much will prevent proper blood flow.
