Box Squats

Quick question...can i lean forward when i press off the box or should i go straight up off of it. I find i have a lot of trouble going straight up as long with the balance issue. Should i widen my stance? Or keep leaning off it a bit? Any help would be appreciated....

It's definitly balance.
Guess i'll have to widen those legs and lessen the weight a little and see what happens. I just feel like i have to lower my torso forward a bit.

hey there sebass,

I used to have the same problem, felt like I had to throw my upper body forward to get off the box.

That problem got gradually better by using a very wide stance (feet currently touching the insides of a cybex power rack) and wearing a z-suit with the straps down. If you don't have a suit, get one, they protect your hips, and let you squat wider and sit back more. They are also pretty cheap, like around forty bucks.

The problem wasn't solved overnight, but right now I don't feel like I have to lean forward at all to get off the box. Off course that may be just because I have been doing it for so long I don't notice that I am doing it anymore.

My legs are just getting back...
Right now i am just doing 10 reps at 185...I know....it's crap weight but at least i am doing it easily.

I figure since i hadn't done squats for a while and am going up the ladder again it will be easier to correct my form since i am using lighter weights.
