Bowhunters!

Weapon X

New member
My burfday's coming up, and I'd like to see if Mrs. Weapon would hook me up with a rig! :D
Can you guys give some recommendations for a relatively inexpensive rig for a new bowhunter?

I will reply later when I get the chance, I think expensive bows are a ripoff. You need to get your draw length measured at a shop unless you know it. I will look up the ones I like and let you know.

go to your local archery shop the'll set u up. just mace sure you let them know how much u want to spend. HIGH COUNTRY makes a great bow. i've been bowhunting for eight years it is my one true passion if you have any questions just ask. theres no such thing as a stupid question, we'll there are a few stupid ones.

Great! Thanks much to you both for the info. If you have any good links to retailers so I can get an idea of the prices for bows you'd recommend, that'd be great.
Would I want a compound bow, etc.

try one of the PSE bow packages, browning also makes a good bow, or if your looking crossbow, check out anything by horton...

also if you wanted to read up, go to www.cabelas.com and check out the forums, ppl have asked kazillions of Q on bows and theres alot of good info there.

lastly, dont just send her out to buy one, go with her, and get the feel for one you like espically with a compound bow. you need one that fits you and you only. not what some salesman tells your wife she should buy for ya.

for example, alot of bows are being made "shorter" now. just goes to show you need something your comfortable shooting.

P.S. a good retailer in my area (ohio) is fin feather and fur, i'm pretty sure they have a website, if you do a search you may be able to find it

I have a PSE compound, if I was to get a new one I would get one under $300, i just cannot see spending $500 on a bow, you can get a gun for that. I like the Buckmasters 2000 by Jennings, any of the PSE, High Country, Darton, and check out Reflex. If you want speed and easy tuning get a single cam bow. I assume since you are a not a tall guy your draw length will be fairly short so your options are much better than mine. I have a 31.5" draw and most bows only go to 30" anymore.

Weapon, heres a few more links i dug up for ya -

The $199 Buck bow might be a good starter. ESP theSaber model. A great single cam bow for under $200 that shoots 294 fps. That's right up there with the big boys for only half the cost. AND, it was listed in Outdoor Life as a deal of the year!!! Can't go wrong!!!

Thanks again, everybody. I love Cabela's! When their latest catalog comes in the mail, I'm almost as excited as when the latest National Review shows up!
I didn't know their site had forums, though! Great Company.
