Bought a new handgun- Lets rock.

After owning nothing but Glocks I had some extra money so I went out and bought a Colt 1991A1 Government Standard Model .45, blued. I got it brand new with 2 7rd. mags, an aftermarket 8 rd. (Chip McCormick), cleaning kit, Uncle Mikes inside pants retention strap holster, 100 rounds winchester white box 230 gr. FMJ. All out the door for $765 (gun alone was $700).
Ive loved glocks for years but this 1911 has a lot of potential the glock just doesnt have.
Pros over glock- Styling, Looks, way it feels in my hand, weight distribution, rounder lines for conceal carry, customizability, resale value.
Cons- Heavier than glocks, needs de-horning, breakdown/cleaning is a pain, probably going to give it a "reliability job" somewhere since Ive heard mixed reviews about 1911's reliability.
This is the exact model I bought: http://www.colt.com/CMCI/1991.asp
I dont want two handguns so I am selling my glock (sheds a tear).
Going to go to the range soon. Lock and load.

yeah, plus single action

lol....an uncle of mine has a 1911, and has never cleaned it once.....still fires

i don't care for the woodgrain hand grip, but i bet that bitch packs a punch.

i need to order a case of ammo for the makarov. been too long since i last went to the range. trying to convince the gf to come with me so i can start teaching her how to shoot. she doesn't like the idea though.

want to pick up an AK-47 in the next few months as well as start looking for a little single shot 22 rifle. i want to start taking my son to the range when he gets closer to turning 5 or shortly thereafter. 22 has no kick and if i get him a single shot model, it will raise my comfort level knowing that he has to wait for me to load each round instead of being able to chamber the next one on his own.

Yes, I really do work there.
Damn orb, sorry to go to the competition then. If it makes you feel better I narrowed all those 1911s down to the milspec or Colt 1991. Since all things were just about equal, I bought the "prettier" one LOL.

i just bought a gun also.a friggin toy gun obviously in canada

No prob. superdave. Just thought I'd post the site so others could see what we do.

Unless you carry in a vertical rig, it might be a pain in the ass. But a 1911 with a trigger job (including smoothered action and overtravel adjustement) and some fine tuning (feeding and ejection mostly) is a kickass gun.

Never, never, NEVER sell a gun unless you need money for food. Actually, if you kept the gun, you could just TAKE the food.

I gotta dump the piece orb, I love guns and all but I just dont see any point for me to own more than one at a time. Plus I need to recoup some of that cash I laid down on the Colt.

Auction arms and guntrader (i think that's the one) are ebay style sites you could try to list it on. only problem there is you might not get as much as you want because you're gonna have to compete with everyone else on price.

anyway, it's a thought if you've never checked out those sites.

Yea I know of those sites and I will probably concurrently run a newspaper ad for a few bucks.

Most of the problems i have heard about 1911 have to do with feed-load or ejection problems.
I had a few feed-load issues with my Kimber while breaking it in but only with one mag and it was the cheap supplied mags that caused it.
Still use them but i am going to be picking up some Ed Brown or McCormick 10 rounders soon and I don't think I will have probs.
The only thing left for me on my Kimber is an extended Magwell and a trigger job to take out the minimal creep it has.

Next up : A nice m-4 and a custom 1911 for comps built on an STI frame. Maybe compensated if I decide to buy a sweet race gun but I have to go shoot some before I decide between .38 super or .40 Cal for the comps. Probabaly .38 super because of the high capacity mags it can carry. One competitor has a .38 super that carries 28 rounds.

We buy our mags from the same supplier that Kimber does. I agree with you. They are crap. I would stay away from the 10 round single stack mags for 1911, though. It's my opinion that you will have the same problems with them. I have seen them plenty, and that's been our experience with them.

Any experience with the Ed Brown 10 rounders? I have seen very good reports on their performance, but they are a bitch to find a place that sells them.
Maybe i should just bite the bullet and buy a few competition-tuned 10 rounders from Brazos or some other custom Smith.

Also, what do you think of the .22 lr conversions for 1911's?

No, but I'm sure they are pretty good stuff. We buy some parts from Ed Brown, and their quality is pretty good. We buy firing pin stops, ejectors, and stuff like that. They go in to a lot of our custom pistols. It wouldn't hurt to give the Ed Brown mags a try, and see how they work. We have been R&D testing a ton of the 22 long rifle 1911 conversions lately. For the most part, they have all been pretty kewl. Great way to shoot some cheap ammo through your 1911. Not everyone can afford to blow through 200 rounds of .45 ammo every weekend.

Thanks for the info. I have been looking at a Kimber converion .222 for my .45 now.
I go through about 300-500 rounds per week now and am looking at a Dillon 55b reloader to save some cash and load my own match grade and target ammo.
I did break down and order a Kimber 10 rd mag for educational purposes and am going to pick up some ed browns as well. I will let you know.

I may have to look at some springfield handguns now in different calibers to ass to my collection. Any favorites? I like 1911 style but am openexcept to polys just don't like the "toy" feel of them. Anything but 45acp would be great.

Probably will have a .38 super custom built. But I have been eyeing guns in the the 9X23 as well.
