Bosses Day bullshit

Five minutes before punch out time the ass kisser in chief comes in my office saying he's got stuff for the boss and he wants us all to go in there before I go. Everyone at my work knows that I need to leave at a certain time to pick up my kid from school. I commute in, and there is no one else to pick her up.
So everyones getting ready to go in there, and Mr asskiss gets a phone call, which he takes. The minutes tick by, its time for me to go so I go.
I'm thinking great, now I look bad for ditching out but whatever.
Sure enough monday morning the boss makes a comment about it.

Heres the kicker though, Mr asskiss asks me to pitch in for the gift!
WTF is that all about? I've got to figure out the right way to tell him to fuck off.

I didn't even know there was such a thing till I saw it on the calendar the other day. Either do any of my employees.

Do you have an understanding with your direct supervisor that you must leave
at a certain time daily to pick up your child?

Do they agree to that policy ?

If so, you should have simply politely excused yourself when you needed to.
If not, get an understanding before you bitch about this.

As to the gift, does everyone get a gift that is a "Boss" ?
If not, I say "Sorry, I am not participating in this event"..

I've been leaving at this time for years. The boss knew he was getting a single dad when he hired me, and has been fine with it, as far as I know.
This is the first year anyone has even mentioned bosses day, really I didnt know there was one.
