Bodyfat percentage?

I hear a lot of people talking about their bodyfat percentage and i want to know how you get tested? Are you just guessing or do you get it checked by someone? Everytime someone post their bodyfat and say they have a certain percentage of fat, another person post to say it's higher than they think. How you get tested?
 
Skin fold calipers... Bod Pod... Hydrostatic weighing... there's a few ways... but I think a lot of dudes here guess...
 
the easiest thing to do is you can use an omron hand held device which if used properly can be a good approximation of body fat. is it 100% accurate? no its not, but it will give you something close and its way more accurate then those silly scales you stand on that give you a reading. your gym should have one

I will post a picture soon. I really wish I could find somewhere here that can measure my bodyfat.

Every Gym with trainers should have some sort of way of calculating your bmi and body fat... Trainers use it to measure clients, train them for a month, and then measure again and show them results on paper... skin calipers are the most accurate... I have had a hand held tell me that i was 18% one time, i lowered my weight, and got 11%, then i put my weight back, and it went to 28%, then i did the calipers and measured out at 14.5, then i regripped the machine with all my stats and it read 15 %... So they can be accurate...i think getting it done first thing in the morning on an empty stomach after fasting all night should give you an accurate reading.... no supplement taken of course...
 
Hydrostatic Weighing is prolly the most accurate AND most $$$... just get a good caliper test or bod-pod testing done...
 
ive seen bod pods be way off.. probably human error but who knows

basically find one good method you can do and repeat and then track it

i like the hand held devices or a good scale w/ a handles as well... because they are consistent if used properly and they are easy to use.

The most accurate is the hydrostatic or "bath tub" method. Your body volume is measured by how much water is displaced when you are dunked in up to your nose, and your bone density is scanned, and the math is done. I've had that one, plus I also had an experimental one done with a CT-scan last February. It agreed within 0.5% of the bath tub test, and the two tests were less than a month apart. The ones that are pure elecrtrical conduction and body weight, are as reliable as a presidential candidate's promises. I've had one that was off by over 15%, and that was an expensive one at a doctor's office. Mine is 4.7-4.9%, and that's about as low as you can go without becoming in jeopardy of health problems in case you get sick and can't take in calories for a few days. Cutting is my sector of the bodybuilding sport, so that's why mine is so low.

I guestimate lol but who wouldn't argue that I'm at 8% now
 
Its a real pain in the ass to measure your BF constantly, so I do what some people here have already mentioned and take it occasionally and guesstimate in between based on what I look like and other factors.

I've never done any of the others but the skin tests which seem to be relatively accurate (although thickness of your epidermal layer will throw it off at lower BF percentages). Was at 7-8% when I was doing quite a bit of MMA...........now that I have finals coming up I'm probably around 10%......thats about how I work through it lol.
