Body building versus biking?

plhnw

New member
Hi...

I was wondering -- would biking be a good form of body building -- not on a stationary bike, but a typical mountain or racing bike, outside?

I ran across a useful website (http://visualsearch.dogpile.com) with a US map, giving me local trails and other interesting bike facts, but this forum might be helpful as well.

Thank you for your input...

road biking is a great leg workout but it's no substitute for squats.

Mountain biking will take your cardio level light years ahead.

I have raced MB's and honestly, it's one of the toughest sports I have ever done.

The level of conditioning required to race and stay in the top 10% is quite a bit of work.

It's 100% worth it.

i used to race too, but my body couldnt handle bbing and biking... either i was 140lbs with like -29% bf and did well in my races, or was 180lbs @9% bf and finished about mid-pack... and frankly bbing was more important to me so i stopped racing. I still mtb for fun, but its damn hard to do if you havent been doing much specific training for it

but yea, prepare to shed pounds like panties at a prom.

I raced BMX when i was younger and my legs became very strong as a result. I still enjoy riding and have started riding more to add extra strength/muscle to my legs. I mainly focus on hill sprints rather than doing hundreds of miles on a road bike.
