Bmw M5

I would like to hear opinions on the M5 from car enthusiasts. This may be my next purchase, it seems like the ultimate performance sedan.

if i could have any car in the world that would be it,i dont know why but it has a look to it that i like

and all rich people own beamers,not to many lincs out there

The M5 is an amazing car.

My friend has the 1998 model....loves it more than his wife. lol

I took it for a spin a few weeks ago. The car has so much power you can go from "hey this is fun" to "holy shit, I'm gonna die" in like 1/2 a second, but the handling is so good it keeps most people out of trouble. :)

Only real draw back is price. If you've got an exrta $80K sitting around, you're good to go. Otherwise, I'd reccomend a used model, or the less expensive M3 (which actually handles better, although it has less power).

I've driven everything from Benzs to Vipers, but BMW tops the list. Sweet, sweet ride.

A Benz will always be a Benz, no matter how much AMG tunes the car.

It is not a sports car maker and it does not pretend that it is. That is why all of the MBs come with an automatic tranny (in North America, at least).

It is a luxury car and AMG just makes it a little more sporty. It is not in the same class as BMW tuned by companies like Hartge.
 
I'm a big fan of the M5

Although a hummer would be my ideal
 
As far as MBs go, the E55 would be the most comparable. Suprisingly, I've seen fewer of those than M5s, but I don't know what they cost.

THAT BEING SAID, ON THE "CAR VANDALIZED" THREAD, EVERYONE FOUND IT SO HARD TO BELIEVE THAT SOMEONE CAN DRIVE A DIABLO TO THE GYM EVERYDAY. 2 GUYS AT MY GYM DRIVE THEM TO THE GYM ALL THE TIME. MOSTLY ON WEEKENDS BUT ALSO A COUPLE TIMES A WEEK. ONE IS RED, THE OTHER IS YELLOW. THEIR EVERYDAY CARS ARE 500 SL BENZES.

You may be right...I probably fucked up the year. Although I'm pretty sure he said '98, it could be a 2000. It is an M5, I know that much. lol It's also worth about 2x my yearly salary, so I'd prefer an M3 myself.
 
Kayne - The M5 has been around as long as the M3, just not as popular because the M3 was/is cheaper and comes in 2-door format.

BMW pitch the M5 more as a performance saloon, whereas they pitch the M3 as an out and out sports car.

M3 is a tad quicker, although the M5 obviously has alot more torque being a V8.

Can't beat either for performance.

m5 is a bad ass automobile. i would just like to drive one at some point in time and see what it's like.

Just let my E55 go off Lease. Had it for 3 years, by far the baddest stealth car I have EVER owned. Got it only because they jumped me in the line and the M5 wasn't out yet. Replaced it with a 2002 911 C4s and every day I wish I had it back. Automatic tranny, 0-60 4.7 secs. Had that Mofo over 160MPH a couple of times (limiter removed). Went through THREE sets of Michellin Pilots in 36,000 miles. Whooooeeeee!
Built like a brick shithouse.

I'd always been a BMW man and bought the E55 'cause a friend gave me his mom's spot on the list. Loved the car but it was the service and the M-B dealerships here that soured me from ever buying another one here.

My advice: Get a 2000-2001 E55, You will NOT regret it.
The M5 is an equally great car but who wants the manual tranny in a 4-door sedan?

BTW: Just put my deposit on TWO M5's...2004 model 500 HP paddle shifter!!! 1st 10 in the USA.
Got 2 6-series converts coming 6-9 months before that...
Let me know if you want to buy one of the 6's when my M5's come in:D
 
eh?? you just bought like four cars totalling well over $250K. do you plan on turning around selling them immediately or what do you plan on doing with them

I put DEPOSITS down on the 4 cars. The 6's come late 2003/early 2004 (about $60-70K each- no price yet) then the M5's end of 2004 (at best). I will trade or sell 2 of the 4 at that time; prolly keep 1 of each.

I will broker one of the M5's for sure; should be able to clear $5000 on my $500 "investment" in a little under 2 years...pretty good return, eh?

As for the 6, should be able to drive it for 6mos+ and still get full price for it.

lol no. i did post a pic of a house with a porsche, mclaren F1, and a ferrari parked in the driveway and the garage. the entire thread was a joke, but most people thought i was serious and flaunting wealth. i don't own a house, any porsches, mclaren F1s, or ferraris. i live in a 1BR apartment, work in the tech field and was laid off for about 5 months this year. i hope to clear at least forty dollars this year after all is said and done.

The M5 is certainly one of the sweetest cars on the road.

But, I have to say if you want sheer power and distinction, look at the Audi RS6. The RS6 has a 450 hp biturbo engine, 5 valves per cylinder, a fully galvanized steel body with aluminum hood and fenders. The sheer fact that it has all-wheel drive through the quattro system puts it leaps and bounds above the M5. In addition, there will probably be less than 1,000 RS6's on the road in the states, as opposed to many thousands of M5s.

Of course you can't go wrong with either one, but the RS6 will be the fastest production car on the road, and it's still a luxury sedan. That is something to brag about.
 
Bigguns, isn't the RS6 a wagon, I agree with you on the Audis though, they are awesome vehicles. A friend of mine who lives in South Africa has an S6 sedan. I think that the S6 is superior to the M5, let's hope they bring it over to are shores.:)

It might come in a wagon, but it also comes in a sedan. The S6 is definitely nice, but think of the RS6 as it's big brother. They don't even compare. The RS6 has 110 hp more.

the M5 has been around here since 1992. I just checked in my 1994's car Guide and it was priced at 75 000$ Then between 1995 and 1997 I think the M5 was just sold in Europe. My choice would be the Ferrari 456m GT ( 4 seats).
 
driven an m5. best friend's dad owns one. if you're looking for a sedan, look no further. I've driven tons of cars, and nothing in its line can beat the m5. passes cars like they're standing still on the highway.
 
all i know is, nothing says "Ladies, I'm lookin for ya" like a nice wagon. there's something about four doors and a hatchback on a non-suv that screams, "i am all cock and balls with a steering wheel."
