Bloodwork in Canada (specifically Ontario)

my good Canadian brothers.

I want to get some bloodwork done pre and post-cycle. ideally i'd like to get one for lipid profiles and one for test / estrogen levels.

My question is where are you guys getting this done, is it covered by OHIP, do you just say you need to get test levels checked?
I don't really know where to start and don't know if I should just call up the old GP and say "i need blood work - lipid profile and test levels. book me"

is there any DIY kits available, and anyone with experiences with them??

THANKS in advance!!

You can tell your doctor your experiencing low energy, low libido, etc and that you'd like bloods to check everything out.
But the doctor's probably not going to do a full hormone panel.. mine didn't.

I know you can get it done through Naturopaths(sp?).. around here costs like $100 or so.

Good lookin out Gawd. You always got some answers for me.
What did your doc tell you then if he wouldn't do the full bloods? lol

I'll take a look around town and see if there's some naturopath centres or something. my doc's bogus anyways. takes like a month to get an appointment cuz she's too caught up with her botox clinic. Kinda ridiculous really.

Gawd, I need your help bro.

Just got the following email from a naturopathic clinic around the corner.

Cholesterol panel is $9.95
Complete health screening $59 - $109
Hormone testing is more expensive $40-50 per hormone or a
Saliva hormone panel $220 (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA, cortisol)
Visit cost $83 (includes HST, and blood draw fee

It's looking to be pretty fuggin expensive lol. But I don't mind paying if it's for the right reasons, and for the right results. i'll shop around as well.
At $40 - $50 per hormone, what are the ones i should be MOST concerned about? or do you think i'd be best off just getting the whole saliva hormone panel?

i will get the cholesterol panel for sure. BP i can check at the pharmacy in wal-mart LOL. just not sure on what the most important hormones are to test for ie. testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, etc.

What say you, almighty GAWD?

Damn, that is expensive.
I believe the place I checked with around here was much cheaper.
Maybe I was wrong.

In that case I would go the doctor route.
Tell the doctor you want to see exactly where your at health wise and would like bloodwork done for all your organ functions, etc. As well you have been experiencing low libido, low energy, etc and would like to have a full hormone panel done.

I never asked for a full hormone panel so my doc just tested for the basics I guess.

Also, not sure what you guys have in Ontario, but we use Life Labs here in BC which gives us the ability to log in after we get bloodwork taken and see the results for ourself. Pretty cool

hey dude, i'm entitled to free healthcare.
and whenever i can, i will take advantage of that. why would i pay someone money if my doc will do it and it won't cost me a penny.
don't hate just because you have to pay for everything. it's not my fault your country works like that.

we pay out of our ass in the US for anything healthcare related so you guys shouldn't complain about spending 100 bucks on bloods.

Not 100 bucks.
Looks like it would be closer to $500 at those prices.

So that would make before and after bloods like a grand.
