blood tests

Hey guys what should I say it's for when I get a blood test? Should I go to a family practitioner? I'm sure they would do it at the health center at my college, but they usually want a referral, or at least to know what it's for. And exactly what kind of test am I getting? I know jack about this stuff.

tell them you want full bloodwork, your lipid profiles, your blood cell count, your hormone levels and your liver values etc..
just tell them you've never had it done, and you are curious what you values are. you are going to start a new diet and want a baseline. if the doc gives you a hard time (my first one did), find a new doc.

Get it before--that way you have baseline figures. Some get it during, which can be helpful if you are trying to manage hormone levels w/anti-estrogens, etc. Most get it after, to see if their pct was effective. You should at least get an estradiol and testosterone-free, loosley bound and total.

I'm already nearing the end of my cycle, so it looks like I'll be getting it after. Will my doctor explain the results to me, or do I need to study up so I can know what the results mean for myself? I'll probably do it after my PCT. Then I'll have a reference point for my next cycle.....sound good?

the doc may question your request but remember the medical field is just another money hungry business more than happy to sell you some labwork. the more tests they perform, they more they can bill you, or your insurance company. :o

I have never had a Dr. to question my request. It's normal for people to want to keep an eye on their health!
Like lvtitan said, if they want to question you just find another one!

good post. doctors are not gods, if you don't like yours find another. they NEED patients as much as a plumber needs clogged up sinks and an insurance agent needs to continually write new accounts.

I agree that if youre asking for general health tests you shouldn't have a problem at all.

But if you ask for specific HPTA tests you do run the possibility of fielding a few questions... :)
