Blood pressure too high to start cycling?

dasitmane

New member
have been concerned about my blood pressure because every time i go to the doctor's it is pretty high

the one on the top is like b/w 140 and 160, the bottom one is fine though
usually 60-70

but they usually never take it again and just disregard it and don't say anything (the nurse)

so i tested it myself at cvs today like 5 times

i drank 1-2 cups of coffee beforehand and 60mg pseudoephedrine (sudafed for nasal allergies, but it does raise blood pressure)

1st reading was 140, second 135, third 125, fourth 115, fifth 120

the bottom number was always b/w 60 and 70

does this mean my blood pressure is probably fine?

is my blood pressure too high is what im asking though

considering it dropped within normal range after a few measures

if you are resting and run your blood pressure and your systolic is high but your diastolic is normal like in your case I would keep an eye on it.

ideally you want both to be normal. however I have always felt the diastolic was the most important. also keep in mind those blood pressure machines are just not 100% accurate, its important to not go by just 1 reading but by a series of readings to determine high blood pressure.. I have seen MANY healthcare professionals who are in capable of properly measuring blood pressure, hell I have had some use their thumbs to measure my heart rate!

I wouldnt advise using anything until your BP is under control. You want to do things in a healthy manner.

^ok but

it was only high when i first sat down to take it afte rwalking in

considerin gthe more i sat there resting and continued to take it, the more it dropped

and it dropped well within nomral range, isn't it fine

Your BP isn't outrageously high and the diastolic (bottom #) is actually quite good. I would definitely keep monitoring it on cycle. You should probably invest in a good cuff so you can monitor it daily. Take it sitting, standing and laying down too. Even a little water retention can raise your BP.
