Blood pressure High

Just got my blood Pressure Checked using that lame machine at Shoppers Drug Mart.

First Try 165 over 108
2nd try 140 over 88

i know that the 2nd try is within tolerable limits but the first one scares me. Any thoughts!!!!

Both readings are too high

Drol is known for high blood pressure. You are probably a similar reaction as I did last cycle with my drol. I was taking 50mg/day for 5 weeks. Blood pressure went to 168/108. I cured myself by discontinuing the drol and took some aldactone for 1 week to shed the water weight. Blood pressure is drastically affected by water weight. A dieuretic od anti E should help you out once you quit the drol.

sk*, is drol known to increase bp?

Well since it increases water retention, then definetely yes. #1 cause of high BP from steroids is water retention, #2 would probably be the effects on the lipid profile. JMO. :)

Thanks for the replies bro's.

I just got back from the doctor to get a scriprt filled and I had him check my blood pressure when i was there. He didn't tell me what the exact numbers were, but he DID say that it was fine.

BTW is 140 over 80 a good or bad reading?

Sk: Off cycle its fine...just when I'm on orals it seems to jump quite a bit.

thanks for the reply bro. if that's true then drugs to minimize the water retention should alleviate it. imo water retention induced hypertension is the easiest to counter and overcome. lipid profile is completely independant of blood pressure fyi.

thanks again bro. :)

Lat do you think if you took these med's while on the drol it would avoid the hypertension?

hairlossguru, 140/80 is okay. I like to see the systolic in the 120's or 130's and the diastolic in the 70's or VERY low 80's. e.g., a diastolic of 88 would bug me.

They give lasix to people with bp problems just for this problem :)

I assumed bp and lipids have a lot to do with each other because of my dad. When he had a heart attack, the doctors said that his elevated bp and cholesterol had to do with it and I thought they said that they were related? I may have misunderstood though.

Well, they are both strong indicators of CV disease, however, neither is a prerequisite for the other. Sure it's not good to have both but many people have one and not the other. Interestingly, however, some hypertension med's will actually cause a not so good lipid profile.

You should look into Nattokinase for your dad bro. :)

I've been told by many people that those machines in the stores are very inaccurate. I think that was evident in your readings being so far off. I believe the most accurate way to get your bp is with the traditional method.

actually a drop like that makes sense and is expected after sitting and resting for a little while. that is why it is recommended that you take three readings at least a few minutes apart to get an average pressure which would be more indicative of your actual numbers. but i hate to say this but unless you have an unusually sized arm, those drug store monitors are pretty damn close. but you're right, done by a doc with the correct size cuff is the only truly accurate and reliable way to check it.
