Nothing serious, it just got a blow when i reracked the weights after heavy barbell rows. it was real painfull last night, and i had problems getting up from bed this morning. So im not gonna do any lifting today, gonna see how my back feels later today. Maybe i will go for a walk, just to see how it feels. Hopefully ill be back in the gym by tomorrow.

anything i should do? like cold or warm compresses. tiger balm?

I´d take it easy for a week and not do anything that puts a strain on your back, just to be on the safe side.

MM my brother had an operation on his back awhile back and
the dr. told him to rest / but not stay on his back all the time.
It's best to get out and walk some.

Hope you feel better soon.

MM...if you are not in a full body brace yet heat is your friend.

Did the exact same thing on Monday during squats. Went too heavy after a layoff and bang! First time this happened to me I had to wait for my buddied to finish playing basketball before leaving but then a guy got hurt and they needed someone. After playing for about 20 minutes my back felt infinitely better.

This time it´s worse I think because I didn´t do something soon to loosen it up. For me it´s a slight strain that is made extra bad by the seizing up of the muscle to protect itself from further damage. It´s the tightening that makes it so painful and can take days to relax. Heat has worked well for me too.

Don´t know if this is your problem.

I would get the DR to check it out.
I was bothered by a "slight strain" many years ago and thought it would heal on its own. Never went to the dr and thought I could handle it. Finally was diagnosed with L4-L5 herniated discs. I haven't had an operation yet but I do get shots in my back for the pain. I know eventually I will have to have an operation and I am dreading that day. I just had a shot yesterday and I feel great but it is only temporary and plus those shots costs $800 a piece. It sucks when the pain drives you to your knees and you can not do anything but try and endure the pain and try and get back up but your back will not let you. Back pain is the most intense pain a person can have, IMO. I think I would rather birth a 10 foot tree trunk than experience back pain. Get it checked out to be safe. Good luck!

Sorry Stig ...I know what your training means to you...BUT TAKE IT EASY ! Use your head and play it safe for a bit! You know your body better than anyone...it'll tell you when it's safe again!

Humor me....OUCH! You know all about this stuff, huh? Poor guy!

hmm, apparently most back strain is just ligament damage and they tell u to just let it heal. thats what my dic said and i stuck a shtload of tiger balm on it. back is just about fine now, but not as strong :(

MM sorry to hear that man. hey, I had that samething happen to me just two months ago. It happened when I was lifting heavy boxes and supplies at work.....atleast I get to work in the office and post on here though. :D

Honestly...that sounds like me on most mornings after I train (especially heavy). I don't think much of it at all. Once I get warmed up in the gym, take a couple alleve, and rub down with either icyhot or zostrixHP...I'm good to go.

If your back hurts...do standing pull down abs. They supposedly help to re-align your spine as well as stretch it. Try to do some reverse hypers...they can be VERY therapeutic.

yeah, but this happend while finishing my heavy set. i was going to rerack it and something snapped in my lower back, shooting pain thru my whole spine. ive done it before, so i knew what it was the moment it struck.

Time to rehab...

And the pain shot all the way from my back to my right thigh. MM did that happen to you also?

this is why I don't lift weights - you just end up getting hurt.

nobody ever strained their back from eating donuts - so I'm just gonna run with that.

agreed. Also, did some regular hypers today and my back responded quite positively. I´m sure to curl my back as I go down to involve the entire length of the muscle up the back rather than locking it in a straight position.

How does it feel???

B True

Yeah...did the hypers help to loosen up your back?

I guess it loosened. Felt warm and no pain at all. That movement really activates the fibers in the muscles deep along the spine.

Like I said my problem is the muscle siezing so tight it hurts in order to protect itself. Just put on 100 kilos on the bar (not that heavy for me) after 5 weeks off and went to town without a warm up set. Very stupid.
