Blast To The Past - 70s Style (need help)

Ok bro, hos, broettes and homohairnets need some input here.

Going to a 70s party this week... but don't know what "70s" fashion consist of. Remember, I was pre K during those times... my mind was not quite registering the atrocities of fashion that was surrounding me.

Nevertheless, before posting here I tried to do some research. Research as in, I asked my Magic Ball. My NEW Magic Ball that is. I have the current verision. Instead of the triangle that floats up with the answer, you shake it and sends you an IM.

So I shake it and I ask "What was the 70s fashion like?"

I guess by now the question is obvious, so give me examples of 70's fashion. Other than the Burt Reynolds mustache.

Silk shirts with big collars, huge belt buckles with "Starsky & Hutch" engraved on them, platform shoes and some huge sunglasses. Throw in a big gold medallion, and your good to go.

AAP it depends which type of 70's you like. There was the disco suck 70's look or the rockers 70's look.
No 70''s look can be complete w/out those 7-up earth shoes.

I've got some retro clothes of my mom's, a few items of dad's as well. Seersucker, polyester leisure suits, flare and paloozo pants, and then there's the whole 'glam rock' and disco era...satin pants, rhinestones, the platform shoes JS mentioned.

They were platform souled running shoes that came in different colors. The green was the 7-up, the brown was rootbeer and the dark blue was pepsi. They were HUGE in the 70's

Oh snap, I jsut remembered those UGLY ASS silky running shorts that were SKIN TIGHT worn with the knee-high white sweat socks with the stripes and the super tight wife-beaters with aforementioned running shoes. Gotta have the head band and matching wrist bands, fro and sunglasses. Oh and you gotta be REAL HAIRY.... yuck.

Find Polyester anything in the pants or jacket department.

PANTS - Think Sanzabelt stretchy waist and flat front, vs pleated
Wide pant cuffs if you can find them.

If you can't find sanzabelt slacks, get a wide "White" belt with some design on it with dark color pants

Tight fitting long sleeve Silk Shirt, wide collar, unbuttoned down to mid chest,
gold chain with something large hanging on it

White slip on shoes, .. squared off toe or round.

Dark red or dark pink shades, large aviator style frames.

I think klackers made out of "glass like" material only lasted a few months or so,
not more than a year. Lots of urban myths about what they were made of originally. Some say glass, other say it wasn't really glass but a glass like plastic that shattered into sharp shards, etc. Same diff IMO..
Back then, consumer product safety and recalls were pretty rare.

I think they just started making them out of a softer plastic that would not shatter,
and didn't even warn too much about the glass ones that were still out there.

get you a polyester suit and some patent leather dress shoes...wear a silk shirt underneath but must be unbuttoned with a tacky gold chain...finish the look off with some big rim sunglasses---good to go!

Leasure suits, I had baby blue, brown and a tan. Rayon shirts w/ huge, wide collar and big print of some kind and platform shoes. I had all natural leather shoes, even the soles and laces, 1" front platform and a 4" heel.
