I'm not really understanding their system over there.

The PM chooses to leave whenever?
The parliamentary system is a little different. It's about forming alliances and I imagine it was to avoid a vote of no confidence. Imagine if congress directly elected the president, he would serve at their pleasure and could be removed at their pleasure, sort of.

In many countries you have a ceremonial head of state(Queen of England) and the executive branch(prime minister). However, some countries have an elected head of state(President of France) and a prime minister.

It seems that Blairs coziness with Geroge W (Warlord) Bush cost him some political capital.

Tony Blair will be remembered for following Bush in Iraq even though he has a decent social and economic track record

the new guy Gordon Brown will be all over Bush too

and Blair has jumped before he was pushed, he hung on to try and escape the shadow of 'Iraq', but when asked, most people will remember him for Iraq, not for the many good things he has done
