Bis = back pain

anthrax

MVP
EF VIP
The day following a bis session my back hurts

Even though I try not to cheat, working the guns kill my lower back

In fact doing squat and DLs seem to put less strain on my back :insane:

Are you positive you arent rocking your back?

deads hurt a little, but squats have no affect

Maybe you can try them seated and see if the pain is still their the next day.

I'm afraid I'm using my back to lift lore weight
But it's pretty difficult not to do it

Same thing, though a bit easier on the back
When seated you tend to over-arch

is it a sharp pain or a dull sore pain?

A chronic pain just like when you lay on your couch all day long with an unconfortable position

well. what may have happened is you may have slipped a disk, most likely not, but my sister is a physical therapist/sports medicine major and she slipped her disk by lifting weights, could be a pinched nerve. she said it happens to a lot of people. it most likely isnt, just a small chance it could be. hope i didnt worry you too much.
if it doesnt stop for a while then get it checked out. you could have screwed it up doing something else and it could be moer painful when you curl bc your spine is at an odd shape.

karma appreciated

i doubt it's a slipped disc. if you can get up, walk around, and lift your filled laundry basket, it's probably not a slipped disc...

Slipped disc can usually be diagnosed from a description of the sudden onset of disabling pain, together with signs of sciatic nerve problems on clinical examination. It can be confirmed with MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) or CT (computed tomography) scans of the spine.

it sounds like you're lifting with your lower back, perhaps swinging the weights. a couple of suggestions:

1) get in your starting position for squats. knees slightly bent, back slightly arched and tight, and leaning forward slightly. this is good because it forces you to isolate the biceps to lift. you can't swing the weights when you're in this position. this does leave you open to bouncing with your legs, but try to resist that.

2) try leaning your back up against one of the padded backrests or up against a wall when doing biceps.

just give them a shot for a week or so. if it gets better, keep it up. if your pain doesn't go away in a couple of weeks, see a doc.

could be a pinched nerve, i know people that ahve a slipped disk and are still mobile, my sister slipped her disk and didnt even know it for a month. i use my back sometimes in barbell curls on the last rep of the last set, and i dont get back pain, although, everyone is different. hope it goes away anthrax.

Sounds you're right

I'll stop doing curls w/ the BB in the squat rack ( ;) ) and only do seated exercises (or against a wall)
