Big Brother in Effect

The world we live in is fucked up..and continues to get worse..

poor guy, I'd be pissed off too..but from what I read, it seems he handled it correctly when the authorities came to him...

invasion of privacy? yes. Is it wrong? i dunno...

Technology has brought in plenty of criminals that otherwise would have never been found (Dna testing, forensics, etc.)

However, if I was a "victim" and that kind of technology brought in my assailant, i'd be happy..

tough call bro oh and thanks for that link to that website..the fakes were pretty funny :)

While I was reading this, I was struck by how similar this is to "America's Most Wanted"
which I've never given a thought to.
On "America's Most" they put photos of untried suspects on the air and people around
the country report into their police dept if they've seen them.
I'm sure lots of false identifications result in innocent people being questioned by police
just as happened to this guy.

I didn't read through the article - but that is the florida system and it was just human error as to why he was chosen - it wasn't the computer program making the mistake (in england they have a face recgonition system hooked up to the cameras and they are very accurate).

I'm writing some image recognition stuff and it is cool... fun too - if you are a dork

The fakes are always funny! I don't know why some people collect them. But the real papparazzi pix were worth it. Somehow, I'm sorry that the mystery has been revealed, though.

I don't know about all this government use of cameras on persons who are not suspects in any crime...

The cameras in England are set up to monitor sport events and to bust criminals in the act [theft, rape, harassment etc] but the cameras in Florida scan people, capture the images and match them to crime files. If you face isn't in the computers database as a criminal it wil be logged for future reference. They are also going to start scanning drivers lic. pics into the system.
