Beware, Registry Mechanic users

The last time I got online from my pc was when I downloaded Registry Mechanic to get rid of all the crap on it, because my screen was blanking out now and then and jumbling all the words up when online. Well after using it, my IP addy somehow got slapped around quite a bit, lost and never recovered, even after a plethora of "technical support" and trying a new ethernet adapter (Linksys....ughhh). Even DOS releasing and renewing couldn't restore it from it's "169." status (you know that's a bogus IP by just looking at it-how can 1 69 itself?.....*sigh* bad joke). The best advice I heard was from the Best Buy tech who said just to reinstall Windows XP. That will definitely take care of it as long as my hardware was ok. So I did that, but now since I don't have the cd to install the drivers it's fucked for the moment, and I'm presently scavenging pc time here and there to burn myself a drivers cd.

I'm sure Registry Mechanic had something to do with this. Why else would this have happened right after..... :heks:

Great, and Dell's website isn't working to let me download the drivers I need. :happyscra

this happened to 2 machines at my job, you cant even remove and re-install tcp/ip and then try to renew it. Some files that were removed with ad-aware caused it to happen...i bet that program removed the same files and that is why your tcp/ip is all screwed, I had to reinstall windows xp on both machines to fix it..you can fix it by booting up from the windows xp and "repairing" windows xp.

IF YOU REPAIR ALL YOUR FILES AND SETTINGS/DRIVERS will be kept. follow the instructions on this page, scroll down to "XP Repair install"......do it the way it tells and do not "repair using recovery console". I have done this at work several times, you wont need any drivers.

Thanks bro, but I had already reinstalled it, and the way I ended up doing it requires drivers to be reinstalled. I'm about to do that now.

Thanks again, I'll def. save this info.
