Best Song From the '80s

I was sitting around trying to decide what the best song was from the '80s... then I hit on it KARMA KAMELEON by Culture Club. I used to love it when Boy George would get up on stage and sing

KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA KAMELEOOOOOOOON
SEND KARMA TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I'LL SEND KARMA TO YOUUUOOOOOOOOOOO
YES KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA KAMELEON

It was such a beautiful song. :D

Last night I had the strangest dream.
I sailed away to China, in a little rowboat to find you.
And you said you had to get your laundry cleaned.

sorry dude?

Oh come on...you don't know that song?

Didn't want no one to hold you, what does that mean?
And you said, "ain't nothing gonna break my stride."
Nobody gonna slow me down.
Whoa no.
I got to keep on moving.

Bumpity Bump Bump Bump

Now what were the rest of the lyrics....

KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA KAMELEON
COME ON YOU LAMOOOOOOOOOOIDSSSSSSS
I SENT KARMA TO YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
NONE OF YOU HAVE SENT ANY BAAAA-AAACK
THAT REALLY BLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWS
KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA KARMA KAMELEON

"Golden Brown texture like sun....."

Stu.

Lays me down, with my mind she runs
Throughout the night, no need to fight
Never a frown, with golden brown

That song is so great

It took you how long? Why do I get the feeling someone just fell off the turnip truck?

take these broken wings, and learn to fly again, learn to live so free, and when we hear, the voices sing, the book of love will open up and let us in yeah-yeaaaah...

are you from street fighter? Tiger Uppercut!!

Or are you the accomplished arteest. Man funk dat!

All day yesterday I had the song "In a Big Country" by Big Country stuck in my head. I heard about the last 20 seconds of that song on the car radio and it just stuck with me.

"I don't expect to grow flowers in the desert
but I can expect to the sun in winter time

In a big country
dreams stay with you
like a blah blah blah on a mountainside
blah blah blah......"

can't remember all the words, fuck now I have it in my head again :(

The Outfield - Your Love

Josie's on a vacation far away
Come around and talk it over
So many things that I'd like to say
You know I like my girls a little bit older
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
I ain't got many friends left to talk to
No-one's around when I'm in trouble
You know I'd do anything for you
Stay the night - we'll keep it under cover
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight

Try to stop my hands from shakin'
Somethin' in my mind's not makin' sense
It's been awhile since we've been all alone
I can't hide the way I'm feelin'

As you leave me please would you close the door
And forget what I told you
Just 'cause you're right - that don't mean I'm wrong
Another shoulder to cry upon
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Yeah
I just wanna use your love tonight
I don't wanna lose your love tonight
Lose your love
Lose your love
Lose your love

For Rap, it'd probably be:
"Fuck the Police" - N.W.A.
-A classic track off of a classic album by a great group. Had controversy and good lyrics. There may have been very slightly better 80's rap songs (maybe other NWA or Run-DMC), but none of them had the impact 'FTP' did. The fedz even wrote a letter to NWA complaining. Haha

I'm working on a 80's cd right now. Here's what I have. I admit there are some questionable songs in there.

Bananrama - Cruel Summer
Corey Hart - Sunglasses At Night
Depeche Mode - Blasphemous Rumors
Depeche Mode- Strange Love
Duran Duran - Come Undone
Eddie Money - Take Me Home Tonight
Erasure - Chains Of Love
Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas Time
INXS - Need You Tonight
Johnny Hates Jazz - Shattered Dreams
Madonna - La Isla Bonita
Martika - Toy Soldiers
New Order - True Faith

Romantics - Talking In Your Sleep
Roxette - Listen To Your Heart
George Micheal - Father Figure
Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me
Stacey Q - Two Of Hearts
Duran Duran - Ordinary World
Kim Wilde - You Keep Me Hanging On
Depeche Mode - Policy Of Truth
Information Society - Pure Energy
Real Life - Send Me An Angel

S-A-F-E-T-Y D-A-N-C-E

we can dance if we want to
we can leave them far behind
cause if friends dont dance
and if they dont dance.
there no friends of mine

For me, I will always be a fan of Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel album. That every little step remix with the rap was one of the first songs I learned from just likeing it so much.

Every body wants to know what's going down,
Not with the James not the Jim but the Bobby Brown,
Now I'm chilling much hard as you all know 'cause Bobby Brown..
Was g-g-g-g-good to go solo,
Been on the mic for a long long time
I'm gauranteed to bust a stupid rhyme.....

Damn I was always pumpin the stereo and TV when that track was on. :)

Some of my favorites:

Something to Believe In: Poison
House of Pain: Faster Pussy Cat
Alone Again: Dokken

LOL @ Swarbs! Ya know what? I read your list and like it....EXCEPT that nerve nashing tune "Don't Worry be Happy" !

Dear God, someone put a gun to my head right now...I'll have this tune buzzing the web of my mind alllll day !

Here's a little song I wrote
You might want to sing it note for note
Don't worry, be happy
But when you worry you make it double
Don't worry , be happy,
Don't worry , be happy now.

GOD HELP ME...

Fuck Bro! I love that song! Heard it when I watched "Snatch".
They used that song in one of the movie's most powerful moments.

Two other of my favorite 80's songs are by Split Enz... remember them? "I got you" and "Six months in a leaky boat"
