Best opportunities in CANADA???

Business has been very good as of late but I see bad things in my crystal ball for America. I used to love this country but cannot condone the path that it travels.

I can't change it since I am not super rich so I probably should leave it.

Skills:
Experienced professional photographer and videographer
Intermediate home construction and cabinet making
Experienced salesperson
Self motivated and good at solving problems
Good at travel

Willing to work almost anywhere

Looking for ideas right now, preferably not from stupid.....oh never mind. :)

with your skills I would think Calgary would be suited for you.

lots of developement happening there and lots of business.

Thank you..... beautiful country too, I have been there on a backpacking trip.

Actually Calgary is pretty mild in the winter. They might get the odd cold snap but in general its pretty nice.

Not sure what else to offer you. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver although big are the most expensive cities to live in, not sure if that is an issue for you.

Others might have more input on other cities.

I would suggest giving Toronto a look then. It normally has quite mild winters with not too much snow (this year has been an exception) and is the largest city in Canada. It is also very ethnically diverse....

Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal

Don't go to Ottawa

So far Calgary looks the best to me so long as winter doesn't last for more than 5-6 months.

Tboy canada has summer 6 weeks and winter...the rest of the year.

So its either winter or Bushbarian economics and foreign policy?

I'll take winter. Honestly...Bush policies frighten me badly and that is no joke. I see war on all horizons with that skipper at the helm. :cold:

Its true.
Unless you're in Vancouver/Victoria where you just have monsoon season all year.

Well, I live in Toronto and start playing golf in early April and usually don't put the clubs away until late November and I don't like playing when it's too cold.....

Winter is a lot more attractive than Habib doing our thinking while Mang does our manufacturing and Juan does the servicing. :)

Americans are going to either be rich or poor and I have no burning desire to do what it takes to become rich.

BTW - Yes, Calgary is totally dominated by oil/gas, and its economy swings with that industry.

Crude or oil shale? Mostly crude I would think.

You really want that level of detail? Would it actaully affect your decision?

Crude & natural gas.
Oil sands are only economic when prices are high.

Seeing as how I can move anywhere that English is the dominant language, I will look at a lot of details.

It costs a lot to move me. Wear and tear on possessions mostly. I have 2-3 of most things that are not terribly valuable.

Actually Montreal has been pretty good lately in terms of employement. It aint what it used to be before. Very easy to get subsidizes in many areas. Only downside: income taxes are still pretty high (about the same as NY or California).

If you have some specific questions, just Pm me...

Thanks manny

I have a lot of wedding booked through the summer and my word is more valuable to me than almost anything so I have several months to research things.

I did quit accepting bookings after the election. :) I suspect the powers that be are willing to do what it takes to retain their powers that be.

Actually if you got some muscles and don't mind working there are litterally tonnes of jobs in the oil industry. Any dumb fuck who wants to work can be makin triple digits. Alberta is where its at.

I'd rather use my brains than be a "dumb fuck." :)

Easy money in the oil field?

I make easy money right now. I just know that we can't do what we are doing so I have to move or pay the obvious consequences.

Get the right job up there in oil or nat. gas and you can get 500-600 dollars a day in the field. We do work with a few canadian exploration companies.

Cheers,
Scotsman

There are a quite a few oil field jobs out there, but they're very hard work and quite risky. Theres a reason the oil companies pay so much -- the work fucking sucks and its dangerous as hell -- not many men can handle it. Deaths are not uncommon, and a neither is being maimed or seriously injured.

If you can handle 12 hour shifts of the most brutal and exhaustive labour you can imagine, then go for it. They pay is excellent -- first timers often clear $70K for 6-8 months of work. A guy I know has been doing it on and off for a while, and he made $120,000 the last time he went out.

I also know _a lot_ of guys who thought they could cut it, got out there and just fizzled out after a day or two.

Anyway, there are other jobs in Canada. :) All of the major provinces and cities (just stay out of saskatchewan and manatoba) have pretty diverse employers and environments.

Are talking about roughnecking? The hell with that.

I know a guy who used to drill for oil. The business got bad in Midland and he roughnecked until he had an offer to be some type of oil field engineer. Then he blew his head off. The timing didn't make sense at all and neither did other things. Everyone was astonished, I think someone made it look like something it wasn't.....as do others.

Lots of guys from the oil patch flipped when it went to hell. Bush ran for Congress.
