I don't have a costco card. I am looking between a SHARP, SONY or SAMSUNG. but they do sell bose here, what makes it better than the rest? I am no good when it comes to the theatre system at all.
thanks
jnevin said:Hell, I don't know. I sold my LCD to a friend that couldn't afford a new one, and am kind of regretting it. I do know that Samsung Aquos and Sony Vaio are good. I just don't remember why.
ck2006 said:is it samsung aquos or sharp aquos cause I was just about to buy a sharp aquos. They say that LCD is better than plasma for gaming cause the picture doesn't get melted or something onto the screen???
What kind of LCD did you sell?
jnevin said:It was a Sony projection LCD. I got it a few years ago, so it wasn't the hi-def ninja TV that some people have. I don't watch too much TV, so my friend asked me to sell it to him and I did. I bought a flat tube HDTV, and it honestly has a better picture than the LCD did. It's just thick.
ck2006 said:LOL.... ninja TV. See I was looking at the bigger ones too with LCD rear projection, arrrr, I don't know.... he wants a BIG one, we have a 46 inch big fat one too and it is heavy and really thick too and I don't want another one like that. But the rear projection is a little thinner, bigger but I wasn't sure of the quality or picture... thinking out loud.
Which would you prefer to get the flat smaller or bigger little thicker one LOL????
jnevin said:If money wasn't an option, I'd go with a flat panel LCD with a screen around 50". You can go to chutchfield's site and see what they have, amazon has a bunch too. You'll be close to $4500 U.S. for something good though.

kano said:sony bravio 40 inche with the floating glass bezel
ck2006 said:Flat panel sharp aquos it is, and I will look for a bose home theatre, I am going to go through best buy cause they have both, just gotta figure out how much to spend on the theatre system.
Thank you very much for your help.![]()
gonelifting said:If you don't mind the thickness of a DLP, you can get the Samsung DLP that costco carries. It is a 1080p set which is the higher- HD sets now. I know they have 61 inch but i think 50 inch as well. (also 70 wow). I would also get a surround system from Costco instead of a BOSE. The Bose MAY be better, but I don't think the extra cost would be worth it. $500 compared to $1500-$2000. Go with a $500 from costco.
bluepeter said:Good choice but don't get it from Best Buy. Support a Canadian store and get it from 2001audiovideo or whatever it's called. As additional incentive, they currently have the lowest price around for the 46' Sharp Aquos flat-panel LCD.
ck2006 said:Where is 2001audiovideo located, I am not sure they have one where we live? Is future shop canadian?
ck2006 said:What is a DLP? I don't have a costco card, so I don't know what is compariable to the ones in costco?
bluepeter said:Not anymore. Most of our retailers have been taken over by American competitors. Where do you live?
ck2006 said:Canada LOL, alberta
gonelifting said:Oops, I misread your earlier post as you DO have a costco card. lol Sorry.
DLP= Digital Light Processor? I think. It's just a different technology instead of Plasma, LCD, DLP... The 61 inch I was referring to is about $2000 US currency give or take, but remember it is not a 4 inch thick plasma size or LCD TV. It is deeper, maybe 10 or 14 nches deep. So if you can't have that (it definately can't be mounted on a wall) then you need a plasma or lcd.
bluepeter said:Obviously Canada![]()
Don't know a Canadian electronics retailer in Alberta. 2001AV is only in Ontario. Try and find one if you can though.
gonelifting said:Canada, home of the Paradigm speaker. Ahhhh. Nice.
ck2006 said:now I am looking up those puppies LOL. TOOOO many choices lol.
gonelifting said:2 things...
Paradigm speakers are the regular big box looking speakers, not the surround soound packaged systems. They CAN bwe used for surround sound, but they aren't sold like the systems you often see with the dvd players uincluded etc... I have a set of the Paradigm Studio series speakers. They are awesome and your husband would love them. GREAT bang for the buck too. Still expensive though, but a good buy.
OK #2 again, a DLP is not one to mount on the wall. Just to clarify. Only an LCD or plasma can be done like that.
ck2006 said:We have a huge living room so I am debating over it cause right now we have a big ass (thick) tv and it bugs me, and hubby wants one over the fireplace (but then we get into bigger issues cause we have stone going all the way up to the ceiling and I am not sure we can) or mounted on the wall. But he also wants a HUGE one so I don't know. He also gets raked in at those stereo shops into "the room" so I know he wants a good system, cause he has tried to talk me into a big system before too so I am trying to comprimise(sp) and surprize him.
I will have to definitly look up the DLP.
thanks

rnch said:althought i still believe it's about 40% over-priced; i am pleased with the bose lifestyle dvd/home entertainment system.
no other company has the combination of compact, petit overall size, am-fm radio, built in cd/dvd player, and inputs for other uses (vcr). the small size was the clincher for me; not everyone has huge living rooms!!
the head unit, finished in silver and black, is smaller than most vcrs and blends in well with newer audio/video equipment.
the amplified subwoofer gives more than enough "feelable" bass, the tiny satellite mid-range and tweeters reproduce life-like sound.
i just wish it didn't cost so darn much.![]()

i believe the bose "3-2-1" system is wireless; but the lifestyle system is not. darn it!ck2006 said:Is it wireless? my hubby also was looking into that before, how are the wireless, is it farely new tech?
fistfullofsteel said:No need to thank me, just take me out to dinner and to some cheap motel aftewards for some hot sweaty monkey sex all night long and we shall call it even.
According to Consumer Digest The JVC LT-40X787 42-in is one of best LCD's. The cost of $1,700
If you want to go balls out then the Pioneer Elite Plasma. One of the Mac Daddies for about $6,000 US Dollars.
gonelifting said:If your room has a wide viewing angle, you may want to look closely at that when shopping in the store. See how far off to the sides you may be and mimick that in the store looking at the TV. Some screens need to be viewed from dirctly in front for an optimal picture. Since you have a large LR, you may have that issue.
Let us know when you buy everything.
gonelifting said:Congrats and Thanks for posting an update. i love updates! lol
Are you putting actual box speakers in a cubby hole in the wall, or are they "In-wall" mounted speakers? If they are regular speakers, they can sound "boomy" if they don't have adequate room around them. That may be anal but it does effect sound. I don't want to scare you, but that is the common suggestion. You may be OK, but at least you'll know why if you have a issue or something. Good luck.
rnch said:i have my bose lifestyle system speakers mounted on the optional stands.....haven't noticed any "boomy" sound.
rnch said:nahhh...........IMO if your tv/audio system is in a decent sized room, esp with the tall ceilings u mentioned, they system should shound ok.
rnch said:my living room is 16 X 28, 14 foot ceilings...a kinda strange shape because i knocked out the wall on the useless, tiny 4th bedroom to enlarge the living room.
my tv is a 52 inch mitshbishi, at one end of the rectangle-shaped room with the sofa/reclinders at the other end of the room.
i wish i wudda went larger on the tv sometimes.

rnch said:yes, esp for this type of house (circa 1870's victorian), the living room gets lots of comments..SO many houses in this historic home district have have tiny (to my tastes) rooms....ugh....were people THAT much smaller way back then?
my last suburban sheetrock shack tract house was small, square and dull....so when i renovated this house, i knocked out walls and widened doors to suit me..at 6-1 and 240, i "need my space"...lol...no more hitting my elbows, hips and glutes on door frames first thing in my the morning, before my coffee, when my depth perception is not up to par.![]()
4 kids will make any size house shrink...my father commented dryly that his house doubled in size after the last of 5 kids finally moved out...."the silence is deafening in here!"ck2006 said:I love vitorian homes, however, you are right they are waaay to small. We have four kids so we need the space too. at 6'1 I think most houses even now are suited to that height lol. My son who is 11 is already taller than me and I am 5'5 so I know he is going to have the same problem LOL

gonelifting said:You'll be fine. I shouldn't have goten too technical. It's like saying "Use Casein protein instead iof Whey protein" No big deal. Enjoy your system.
Rnch, you may have misinterpreted what i was saying. The room in which the speakers sit in is different than the actual location they sit . Near a wall, either on the sides or in back of the speaker. They need to "breathe" sort of, to get the sound they should be putting out. Your speakers are small, so they won't be affected much anyway. blah blah.. forget it.
Just an example, my speakers need a couple of FEET around them to perform optimally. So, in a cubby, they wouldn't work well. Doesn't matter how big the room is.
Carry on.
ck2006 said:these are supposed to go in the wall beside the tv. It is ok to get technical, cause like I said I want it to be awesome! The speakers are small but would it still be benefical to put them in a cubby?

but we are putting our in the wall
Good call. WE got a 37" Sharp LCD from 2001Audio. Best price around, for a really good TV. Now I gotta upgrade my old Playstation. Yeah, but years and years of enjoyment.
Like vibrators.

If that TV is the one I recently looked at briefly, it seems like a really nice one. You definately did your homework.
Now sit back and enjoy. Your husband owes you. lol
ANOTHER bose fan, hey!ck2006 said:...Next it will be the bose system, we went to the mall and they had a demo, it was AWESOME, the speakers don't go into the wall they are mounted on the outside and adapt to the size of the room....

well, waddua expect outta some guy who thinks the beatles were the greatest rock 'n roll band of all time.....Mr. dB said:Just say NO to Bose.
gonelifting said:lol Bose or not... doesn't matter. It's your system.
I only have a problem wih those one speaker surround deals when the room is not a perfect dimension for th technology.
I THINK they use the walls of the room to "bounce" the sound off of to get the surround sounds to go to the back. If you did not have a wall, or had ONE WALL on one side, but no wall on the other, the sound would just keep traveling.... to that one side without "bouncing" off and giving you the rear information needed.
I'm not familiar with them, but I believe that's the theory behind them.
Still, if you hear them and they're good, then GREAT. Invite me, I'll bring the popcorn.
and Disney DVD.
lol jk
ck2006 said:I hear what your saying, i did notice because they had no speakers in the back you didn't get that sound traveling from one side to another. the best movie I have ever watched with surround sound is the Maxtrix! and I like the salt and vinger powder so don't forget that![]()
gonelifting said:No matter, when your husband sees this system, he'll be so happy that he'll give you anal for a month straight! You're so in right now. I'm actually excited for you. See? Oh forget it, it's the internet.

why should i rely on the opinions of some smug, self satisfied tech wennie who hears by looking at numbers on a graph when my own ears work perfectly well for me?Mr. dB said:I dare you to find a good review of the Bose system by anyone with any technical credentials.

rnch said:yeh, GM and bose was not a happy marriage was it! their car units did sound muddy to me...the ford/JBL systems sounded much better to my ears.
gonelifting said:Canada, home of the Paradigm speaker. Ahhhh. Nice.
Mr. dB said:'Cause they're overpriced, don't sound particularly good, and are based on bullshit "engineering" concepts. The demos sound impressive because (1) they use program material that was carefully selected to make them sound impressive, and (2) they have lots of "boom" and "sizzle" which makes a strong "gee whiz" first impression. Thing is, their speakers don't sound accurate.
You could literally flip a coin looking through a Best Buy Store's product list and come home with something better than a Bose system. Don't be a sucker for the hype.
NickyE3 said:You have your opinion and that is great, but when shopping for a home theatre system I aint worred about the bloody size of the speakers. I have experienced alot of bullshit with Bose, but mostly in cars. They shit is either extrememly stupid or extremely smart (prefer the earlier one) cuz if you want to replace something you have to rewire every damn thing. But this is just my experience with the sound systems in Cadillacs. Just thinking about my last car's implementation just pisses me off all over again. Even their ohm impendences were all fuckered up (like 1 ohm or something).
