Best guitar solos?

hell yeah, for sure! Man, too bad he died in that plane wreck... He was so fucking talented

Did you know that Ozzy saved an old, deaf man's life when the plane crashed into the old man's house?

I used to feel bad about that plane accident - such genius killed.

I figured they were just cruising along, riding like one does in a plane, and then something went wrong and they crashed to their death, just by chance hitting a house.

but no - they were staying at this mansion and they had parked their bus out front.
they were all loaded and decided to go flying in the plane (a little prop) and they decided that it would be a good idea to buzz the tour bus (that ozzy was inside of, "sleeping" - meaning passed out).
so they buzzed it like 10 times, trying to bounce the wheels of the plane off of the top of the bus (whcih was about 50 feet from the mansion).

well, they were loaded, and they crashed into the bus - flipping it over (with Ozzy passed out inside - he claims he didn't even notice that the bus had been knocked over), and then losing control of the plane, crashing it into the house, causing a fire that then burned the house to the ground.

I feel a lot less badly about it all now - the dipshits were all part of natural selection.

As far as Ozzy saving anyone's life - I haven't heard about that. The stories I have read all say that he was passed out in the bus and had to be told all about what happened later when he came to from all the drugs and booze.
Also, they say that the house was "fortunately empty" at the time.

but who knows - all I know is that my opinion of them all totally changed after hearing that.

airplane wreck sounds so tragic and sad - but purposely flying your plane into a bus over and over again while drunk and then losing control and burning a mansion to the ground sounds a lot less tragic and more just... well, really stupid.

but yeah - Rhodes sure could play the hell out of the guitar.

Peter Frampton's solo on "Do You Feel Like We Do"

At the time, that distortion and voice box was cool as shit.

Frampton Comes Alive baby!

Beyond the Realms of Death~Glenn Tipton (Judas Priest)

The Loner~Gary Moore

For the Love of God~Steve Vai

Like Hell~Akira Takasaki

Tornado of Souls~Marty Friedman

I could go on forever.

Plus....

......any solo played by yours truly!;)

Metallica's first bass player Cliff Burton playing crazy train on the bass guitar....it has to up around the sickest things I've ever seen. Anyone who's ever played or fiddled around with a bass guitar will know how hard it is to pull that off.

I will have to put in a vote for Slash on November Rain. I'm not much for guitar solos. They usually come off quite lame. But that one is just sweet. That is Vintage Slash. Like Jordan hitting the jumpshot at the buzzer. Sweetness

Also Kirk Hammet on One is pretty good, as much as I truly despise Metallica after all these years.

Oh and "I'll be there for you" by the Rembrandts is absolutely sick.

good call slickdadd.Even though I truelly hate leads, hammet on "one" was truelly tastey with his lead.

anything slash does.............

best i have ever seen/heard was 'use your illusions 1 tour of tokyeo'...the one at the end of double talkin' jive........awesome shit

check it out...

I have a ton of faves ...

Sweet Child O Mine, Double Talkin Jive ... Slash is awesome.
Kirk Hammett on anything from Ride and Master. I especially like Leper Messiah.
Randy Rhoads - Mr Crowley
Zakk Wylde is sick live. He plays a mean fn guitar.
Yngwie Malmsteen - Black Star and Far Beyond the Sun.
There's a new band out there called "Brand New Sin." One of the best bands I've heard in a while, and they actually perform nice solos. Check out "Broken Soul" and "SPP"

... and shit, can we not forget Eruption, Freebird, and Stairway?!

Download "floods" by pantera. It is off the great southern trend kill album. There are 2 solos at the end which are truelly awesome. The gist of the second solo is it is basically mankind's going out song, as the earth is covered by a flood. It's tight.

"Eruption, Cathedral, & Little Guitars". All done by Edward Van Halen who owns all previously mentioned axemen.

USED to own them all. But not releasing anything worth listening to in 10 years or so, sitting on his ass, has really sank him down in the "god" status, while the rest of the guitarists are still out there busting their ass everynight, and not just livin' off the royalties. Satriani, Slash, Wylde, Vai, Hendrix, Perry, BB King, Ra Vaughn, they will/would always be out there playing, in a blues bar, a jam band, a side project, solo album, reunion tour...anything to keep their love alive..which is playing guitar. A true mark of a guitarist.

yes i'm still ticked at Eddie for continually dissin' off dave and sammy. And that Gary Cherone was the gayest thing to hit VH ever. And this year i had no intention of paying $50 to see David Lee Roth play with the guitarist i saw last week for $10 down the street at the local bar.

I agree with the reunion stuff. Eddie is one lazy, stubborn, Dutch bastard. He cares shit about the fans. Christ, if Dave is that annoying(and I'd imagine a 18 month tour with the man would be), then put him in his own trailer. Still though, you can't take away from anything Ed has done bro. I know of no other guitarist who used to have to turn his back to his audience on account of guys ripping off his techniques. Those are techniques HE created, not copied. That says alot.

Frehley's solo on "Detroit Rock City" is better imo.:garza:

You may be right, I was just going off the top of my head. People
don't give Ace much credit, and he wasn't flashy, but his solos were well written and "fit" the song, blending beautifully. I can't
stand solos were there's just a break in the song, and some guy
goes nuts up and down the fretboard. A solo, like anything else
has to be well written, regardless of how good of a player someone is, and Ace was a master.

Yngwie Malmsteen - Black Star and Far Beyond the Sun.

Agreed. Yngwie is like 3 Eddie Van Halens put together. His shows were actually boring because it was nonstop speed scales. I heard far beyond the sun is the rendition of flight of the hummingbird and is just about as fast as it gets. When he played with Rising Force, he did one of his best with I'll see the light tonight. Way back when he was with Steeler he did a song (the last one on side one) that is so fast it defies reality. I haven't heard anything faster than that ever.

Vinnie Moore has some of the best melodies along with speed almost as fast as Yngwie.

Nowdays I pretty much like listening to Rush and can appreciate actual music.

Agreed! Have you heard "evil eye" on the Alcatrazz live video? Holy shit!

You´d love cacophony with Jason Becker and marty friedman.

Didn't guitar solos go out of style?

yep, you can thank Korn for that. How the hell can you play a solo
tuned down to A, or in Coal Chambers case A-flat, it's just a bunch
of bass players up there now thumping. Even Meegs (Coal Chamber) admits he's just another bass player more or less, but
that's THE sound, so to speak.

1. Stairway To Heaven - Jimmy Page
2. Eruption - Edward Van Halen
3. Freebird - Collins/Rossington
4. Comfortably Numb - David Gilmour
5. All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
6. November Rain - Slash
7. One - Kirk Hammet
8. Hotel California - Don Felder/Joe Walsh
9. Crazy Train - Randy Rhoads
10. Crossroads - Eric Clapton
11. Voodo Chile (Slight Return) - Jimi Hendrix
12. Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
13. Texas Flood - Stevie Ray Vaughan
14. Layla - Clapton/Allman
15. Floods - Dimebag Darrel
16. Heartbreaker - Jimmy Page
17. Cliffs Of Dover - Eric Johnson
18. Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix
19. Highway Star - Ritchie Blackmore
20. Bohemian Rhapsody - Brian May

Whoa there.. thats only 2 bands... Admitidly, those 2 bands dont have solo's.. They aren't really the type of music to have solo's either.. Their is still penty of Metal/rock with guitar solo's.

I tend to look at things from a hard metal point of view. Yes, there
are lots of bands still putting together traditional songs (w/solo's),
but the serious power bands don't use them, or to such a small degree they go unnoticed. Fear Factory (RIP), Slipknot, Korn, Coal
Chamber, numerous others but to late to be in a serious thinking mode, but needless to say alot of the tuned down heavy thumpers today do not have room for solos, and Korn was at the forefront, although they probably didn't play them originally because they were not capable, (sorry munkey & head). It's just
out of vogue in power metal, but it'll run it's course. I don't like it,
because the amateur guitarists I pick around with can only play
sludge, and possess no finger skills, but they find this acceptable,
and site the bands I listed as reasons why they don't need to play solos, or for that matter learn to play their instrument correctly.

I will still have to argue with you.. because those are just big name's.. I listen to alooot of music.. and there are still good quality solo's.. Just not in the mainstream.. the mainstream stuff has gotton weird. Check out Corey Taylor's(slipknot) other band.. Stone sour, they got some good stuff... and coal chamber.. frankly.. doesnt have that much skill (even though I still listen to them)

Ya, I'm kind of picking on a small genre.I personally don't think a guitarist has any business with a 7th string, Sabbath sounded plenty heavy tuned to C-flat on a 6. But point is, lack of solos has been trendy through the late 90's, you couldn't find a band without solos up until the early 90's. Although some of the speed metal I listen(ed) to would've been better served without these maniacs sliding up and down the fretboard twisting their wammy bars around. As much as Henneman/King from Slayer are an awesome combo, there solos get fairly annoying after a few songs. Korn & Fear Factory did start a musical trend, a 7 string is pretty standard fare for most seriously hard bands nowadays. I
can appreciate a song here or there being tuned down to A for
a really heavy hit, but most of the time, entire recordings done
tuned that low, lull me to sleep, it takes away the edge from it.

RANDY RHODES WAS A FUCKING GOD!!!

EDDIE VAN HALEN, ZACK WILDE, THAT YNGWIE GUY or however you spell it pulls off some mean ass solos., Dimebag from Pantera is just fucking badass, god, there are just too many....

BMJ

i've seen all these guys live though, and they fucking shred!!!

I always thought Mike from Destruction played some very tasteful solos, without going too overboard for playing in a speed band.

Incidentally bro, I saw a recent interview where they asked Dave about a VH reunion. He responded saying "I dunno, ask Eddie Van Heiniken". I thought that was hilarious. By the way, the interview was a piece about how he and Hager were ready to kill each other on last summers tour. I have to say after watching it(although I love DLR), that he is every bit as annoying as Edward is stubborn. The reunion will never happen.

Charvelle: I was listening to Kiss "Unplugged" as you wrote that first response, ironically enough. They do "2000 Man" on there. Ace sounds great. I'm a longtime ARMY member.:D

I like solo's and guitar riffs that are played with style. Nuno Bettencourt had lots of good shit and Slash rocked too. What comes for newer bands, I'd have to say that John Petrucci from Dream Theater is a very skillful player plus he has some kooky shit going on. Download "Overture 1928" by Dream Theater and you'll see what I mean. Lots of good shit on Liquid Tension Experiment's album. (Dream Theater guys, but Tony Levin plays the bass...)

Gotta mention BB KING ....Lucille still rocks!

SRV- One of my favorite songs: VOODOO CHILE(Slight Return)

Just another reason I love VB!

I must add to the list:

Any solo by Robert Cray.

Stevie's brother Jimmie Vaughn of the Fabulous Thunderbirds in "Tuff Enuff"

Jimi Hendrix clowns any of those fools... he was the master..

Hendrix was bad ass but he did not clown the likes of Randy Rhodes or Stevie Ray Vaughn...No efin way!

The best all time guitar solo or solos were on the Song Remains the same, Zeppelin Live...No Quarter and Stairway to heaven.

And what about this guy?
