Best Exercise For Sculpting Abs

I was trying to decide the BEST exercise thats made the most impact on the appearance of your abs. Obviously you need a low % of bodyfat to see your abs but I was curious as to what exercise impacted them the most. I would have to agree that after incorporating cable crunches into my routine my abs really thickened up and looked a lot better. Whatd you all think?

:D:D

i think you have the right idea... cable crunches have brought my abs out the best of anything...... for those looked to flatten that area... stick to hanging abs, decline leg raises (decline bench, head at top, raise legs to the ceiling), and swiss ball work(edited from smith, guess i'm still asleep... and i gotta squat today eek!)...

and of course a strict diet and many many hours of cardio  i hate cardio...

Yeah I agree... cable crunches really help out big time + diet + cardio.. I hate the diet + cardio part though!:rolleyes:

Abs are found in the kitchen, or so I'm told.

Mon. . . .I've tried cable crunches, but I tend to feel them more in my back than in my gut. I'm normally a big believer in form, but I might be doing them wrong.

 Yes, the "washboard" may be found in the kitchen...lol. As a female I can believe that...at least with me anyways...Lots of cardio :( cardio :( cardio

Results are worth every drop of sweat!!!!!!!!

i used top gt them in my back as well when doing cable crunches. it was due to bad form, i didnt even realise !

the reason why I was doing it (u might have another problem) was i would let my back arch when the weight was returining back to its resting position, as the weight was perhps to much, so i reduced the weigh a little and made sure when i let my self up it was VERY slowly and only till i feel my back will arch if i go any further. its helped :) . hope im correct in sayin this :)

i say rotate all the different types of exercises that there are and throw in two days of weighted,(total of 4 ab workouts)that with clean diet and moderate cardio.that's when i started to see my abs..........

lol @ crackerot,

I actually think that any abdominal exercise which can give you full contraction of your entire abdominal muscle, including the lower and upper part would be best. A double crunch, IE normal crunch + simultaneous reverse crunch would do the trick I guess.

hardgainer (!)

It's been said, cable crunches are the best ab building excerices
if you want to concentrate more on your lower abs do weighted knee cruches.
if yu want to concentrate more on your hip flxors, straight weighted leg raises
oh yea, you want nice abs, diet like CRAZY!!!

i used to struggle with bringing out my abs, but other than the diet (most important) i am absolutely positive that what i do now helps a ton more. try tri-setting ab exercises. i do 3 X 50 cruches (triset with) 20 caterpillars (i dont kow if u know what those are, triset with) 80 reverse crunches

Muscles... fast twitch fibers are stimulated more by high internsity than high volume. My stomach is one of my greatest features. Here is what a typical week of tomch wil look like:
Mon - Cable crunches 3 sets, 12-15 reps
Tues - Oblique 1 arm suspended raises (on lower back specialization machine) 3 sets (12-15reps), lower back raises (same) 3 sets (12-15reps)
Wens - Rest
Thurs - Weighted knee ups 3 sets (12-15 reps), weight leg raises 2 sets (12-15 reps)
Friday - Cable oblique twist 3 sets (12-15 reps), Matt work (5 min. endurance training on gym matt to failure)
Sat - Off
Sun - Off
