Best earbuds ever?

Alright everyone. I just ripped the contacts out of my earbuds after snagging the cable on a hex bolt from a machine. I only use earbuds and no headphones so post what youre using or what you think the best ones are from experience, not an internet search.

This may not seem like a big deal to some, but my last earbuds were OK, not great so I am looking for some really good quality buds at not too expensive of a price ($150+)

I am thinking of something along these lines:

then maybe these guys:

Not the best ever, but I had These stolen from my gym bag about 2 months ago. I'm still a little pissed about it. Also took my Seiko watch that was a grad gift.

Anyways, I'm pretty picky about audio and spend alot of time tinkering with Hi fi equipment. I've had a pair of Shure e2c's before also. The Ultimate Ears were great. Sound wise, they are amazing - the bass is strong but not overwhelming and the highs are smooth and clear. The best feature is the removable cords.

I replaced the UE earphones with a mid range Shure set, not sure what model off the top of my head. They are not as good as the UE's. Not even close. Very comfortable though, more so than the UE's or any other earbud that I have worn.

What do I recommend. If your just looking for something to workout it, then the base Shure SE110's will suit you well. They will sound much better than low end - sub 100$ earphones. Plus, they will be very easy to insert and fit very comfortably. There are better sounding earphones but they will be more expensive and probably won't fit in your ears as well.

Having said all that, don't let me scare you away from the Ultimate Ears. They are very good. The sound quality is top notch. The build quality is great. The cords are removable so if you end up damaging the cords, you can buy replacements. However, they can be a tad bulky, and slightly more difficult to insert into your ears.

I've never tried the Er6's but i've heard good things.

Remember creating a good "seal" is of the utmost importance. I've always had the best results from the Foam (disposable) inserts. The Shure's will come with 3 different sizes and will last a few months or so.

look at the back of earplug boxes.

look at hte dynamic range (freq). for comparison - look at the stats of the most expensive one. then the chepaest one. note how different they are. try to find some in the middle with best bang for the buck.

the only really good headphones i ever found for my mp3 player were optimus ones from radio shack. . .they were small, round speakers that fit into the ear sideways and were connected by a thin metal band that went overtop of the head (rather than behind). . .they had UNBELIEVEABLE bass response and they only cost $11. . .they don't make them anymore. :(

I have the ER-6's...short cord and no bass whatsoever. My $30 Sony's are much better.

Lots of great info here guys, thank you very much. I think I am going to buy a few pairs and keep the ones I find that work best for me. I enjoy some bass, but clarity and fullness of sound is what I am going for. Now I just have to find some extremely high bitrate tunes to load up.

the hp ones that came w/ laptop were the shit...but I somehow got the cord tangled in the leg curl machine..when i tried to stand up, my right earbud snapped out of my ear, i was so forking pissed. :(

I can't seem to find earbud or anything that get me ENOUGH volume.

Currently using the OMX70 Sports and I like them. $50 or less i think these were

Before that I had a set of Bang and Olufsen's that were great but the valet stole them from my console with my iPod. these were like $200 i think

I never liked the ear buds for working out. I have a pair of Bose ear buds that as soon as you start sweating they fall out of your ear, so I went with the wrap around ear style

Try getting a new player bro. There is nothing worse IMO than having too low of volume... oh wait, tearing the contacts from a snag at the gym tops that pretty easily.

I have the Rio Carbon...what is one that is definitely louder than that?

If you are having an issue with volume being too low, then the problem is either the players output, or the sensitivity of the earphones. On most packaging, you will see a chart that will inform you of the sensitivity. The more sensitive, the greater volume with the same output. I hope that comes across clear.

Also, make sure you are getting a really good seal. Earphones should fit like earplugs. You shouldn't be able to hear much outside noise when they are in and the music is off. You'll really lose a lot of bass if you don't have a good seal. The speakers use the pressure of the seal to create the sound. Similar to the box that a subwoofer sits in. Like I said before, if you have the opportunity to use the foam disposable ear inserts, try them.

Best earbuds ever? In my opinion it would be these. These are used by the majority of professional musicians. Price is a little steep, but check out how cool the customs earpieces look in the gallery.

Aren't there wireless/bluetooth earbuds? I thought I saw them but they were in the $100 range, too rich for my blood.

I trashed more pairs of headphones that I use for transcription by constantly yanking the wire out or stepping on it or something like that. I finally started using a wireless headphone. No more worries about wires (just trying to find the right channel can be a bit of a PITA and occasionally I pick up other people's cell phone conversations, which can be interesting).

You know your equipment, but if I paid $1150.00 for some great sounding buds and somehow broke them, I would either kill myself, or someone else in the gym at the time of the incident.
