Best cell phone service????

I live on the east coast and verizon seems to be the best service here. I've had sprint, att, and t mobile and non compair to verizon. But I've had verizon for over 5 years and I was wondering if some of the other companies have improved a bit. Im trying to save as much money a month as possible and verizon seems to be the most expensive. Just wanted to gather your thoughts..

you want 100%(practically) service and reception?
you got to pay for quality
other carriers are cheaper, for a reason

I'm a former sprint/nextel customer
horrible is being nice if I were to describe their service
