A couple times per week I just CAN'T fall asleep.

Even more so now with T-rex.

Benadryl knocks me out faster than anything.

I'm sure you will tell me there are some problems with antihistamine and bodybuilding.. right? Because it works.. so something must be wrong with taking it

nothing wrong with antihistamines as far as i can tell (no studies to back this up). i just know they contain pseudoephedrine (ephedra) that will tend to make most people a little jumpy, restless, etc. some people it makes drowsy; go figure. but i highly doubt antihistamines have a detrimental effect on bodybuilding.

benadryl is an antihistamine consisting of diphenhydramine (sp?). it will not make you jumpy, just the opposite. it does NOT containe ephedra. nadr i think you are confusing antihistamines with decongestants, which DO contain ephedra. decongestants are used to loosen up phlegm and stuffiness.

i HATE benadryl. it makes me feel all dry and just plain strange. bran ask your doc for prescription to ambien. you health insurance will pay for it. it works great and not addictive. perhaps psychologically addictive.

if you insist on using benadryl, save your money and buy the store brand of antihistamines. look for the ingredient diphenhydramine. it is the same active ingredient used in OTC sleeping aids, like Nytol.

you're right, glennds. benadryl is not an antihistamine. my bad. but what i said about antihistamines still stands.

Thanks guys, the main thing for me is that neither one will affect my fitness, given I only use it sparingly.
