350/lbs sounds great but their is a risk when you go up in weight. flat bench will hurt you quicker than anything!!!!! dumbells for a while then i will hit the flat bench hard again. thanks for the props!!!bros. i love this site.

Nice, I just hit 320 for 2 reps the other day, Feels real good when you hit a new mark, all I try to do is add like 5 lbs maybe less 2 1/2 every week and you keep doing that you'll have nice fucking numbers in a few weeks

Awesome. You bench pressed 300lbs-a feat of strength I accomplished at age 16 before I even knew what roids were. Sorry to piss in your Cheerios, but I couldn't resist. My mother never breast fed me, so I have issues.
i have issues to!!!!! no harm taken i done this 6 years ago when i was lifting natural i got up to 335lbs but ripped my rotary cuff that slowed the whole process down.just glad to be back in swing of things again. that was good at 16 years old you must be a big guy all-ready.or a genetic freak!!!.

Feel tougher now?

Its a good thing Gracie isn't fighting you...You'd win too fast!

Nice job man. Set a new goal and go.

However, don't get too concerned with your numbers, especially bench press. It really is the most over rated and over hyped thing I've ever seen. My bench press topped out at 430 this past winter. The thing is, I look a lot better right now and my bench certainly no where near 430 at the moment.

Heavy ass bench presses is a good way to get hurt in my opininon. I've pretty much stopped going with weights that high because of the stress it puts on my shoulders.

Good luck!

Seriously bro-the mirror is your best measure of progress. I'll be the 1st to admit that benching a house offers little real world application. It sure as fuck doesn't impress the ladies-unless I missed the episode of Sex And The City where the girls said "I only fuck guys that bench 300+"??? Bench press is the most overated exercise in the gym. If any one exercise was a true measure of strength it would be the squat since over 50% of your muscles are being involved performing them.

Bench presses were originally considered a measure of strength among offense lineman in football since the muscles involved in bench are also used to block. This is totally old school-and unless you're a football player, powerlifter, or cage fighter, having a strong BP probably doesn't mean much. However, having abs like Brad Pitt will get you laid in a heartbeat.

Props to the poster for not getting too emotional over my ribbing. Keep working and you may be the one kicking sand in my face at the beach someday.

When performing bench press does it count as a full rep if you only lower the weight 4 inches off of your chest? I give my friend shit for it all of the time. He bitches about his chest developement, but god forbid he should be seen benching with less than 4 plates on each side of the bar. No full range of movement=no full range of developement. Last time I spotted him on incline he did 8 reps with 405-but each rep was only lowered to 3-4 inches over his chest. He racked the weight and asked me how many he got. I told him 8, but it only counted as 4.5 since he cut each rep short. lol He told me to fuck off. Truth hurts I guess? Somebody's gotta tell him. He'll be thanking me in a couple yrs because of it though.

I used to bring the bar all the way down to my chest, but now I stop about 1-2 inches away from touching. I never bounced before either like some retards. I feel that I am getting better development and a better workout when trying to stop that last 1-2 inches. I feel a lot safer on the bench, as when I used to touch, for me that opened up more risk for injury. Pulled the chest delt tie-in once on each side. The first time I did it, I couldn't work the chest out for a few weeks, and that was only cable crossovers and 135 on the bench. Also used to take a wide grip on the bench, but have started to bring my hands in closer so as to take away from the risk of injury. This is now my 2nd exercise when lifting so that I can be throughly warmed up. Like you said earlier, the bench is nothing more than an ego thing. Trying to work the muscle is the main thing.

3-4 inches is a little far away to be stopping at.

I rarely give advice at the gym, dont want to be "that guy",but saw an average sized dude at the gym going about half way down, mentioned to him in a friendly way about full range of motion, and had a few other guys at that time give there .02 agreeing with me,he said his "friend said blah blah blah"he did it for like 1 or 2 chest workouts I noticed, and has been back to old crappy form,he's not doing much wieght even with crappy form,I just shake my head (inside)when I see him,one thing is for sure,I always will consider good advice when given.

The best feeling is when you put on three plates for the first time and throw it up properly. Sad, but my strength progress is measured with how many 45's I can load up and throw up (benching anways).

Like one said, set a new goal and keep on progressing. Another said look in the mirror - he's right too, but lifting bigger and consistantly progressing will be the source of your "mirror" progression.

Great job.

Have you considered using less weight and trying full range of motion? I feel that if I'm getting joint pain, I'm going too heavy. Plenty of guys do full range reps without injury. I just can't picture myself as the anomally that needs to do partial reps to avoid injury. Maybe you are? However, you'll never know until you try going lighter/full range. But if you're making progress by doing things the way that you do, then go for it.

Congrats, 275 and 300 seem to be a mental barrier for alot of people. Once you smash the mental barrier, the physical part is easy.

In college 275 was the bane of my existence up until spring my junior year. I could do 270 no problem, but as soon as I put that 25 on the sides it was like my body just wanted to no part in it.

But once I did get it, my bench SHOT up to 330 within a couple of months. I dont think I will ever get 400, but im slowly creeping my way there. I did 365 for my last set of 3 last Thursday so Im not TOO far away... :qt:

that is great!! and how do you put picks on here i am going to take a few picks of my ju-jit-su/school and weight room i have at home and yeah from the early post i would get my ass kick by gracie but out of respect to teach me what he knows LOL!!!! the bench press is over rated but it still feels good. i put my feet up on the bench never letting them touch the ground so the only thing that is pushing the weight is my upper body!! you cant cheat this way. try this sometime it has help me.you cant cheat with your feet up.

It is not that the weight is too heavy, it is just the risk of injury. Sometimes I do touch the bar to my chest, but I try to stop right before I touch. At my heaviest weight of 260, I was benching 405 for a couple of reps, with perfect form of touching the weight to my chest and no bouncing. I am at 232 (end of a cutting cycle), and really don't want to get hurt again. Now I do bench as the 2nd exercise, and try and stop right before touching. Said 1-2 inches earlier, and now thinking it is probably more like 0-1 inches. I think the most I've lifted for this cycle on the bench was only like 315 for a set of 5-6.

I definetly would never tell anyone to do what I do. I believe in doing everything full range of motion to develop the muscles to the full extent. You know as well as me, that sometimes you need to tweak that a little on a certain exercise. For me it is working like this for now. I may change it a few months down the road and start touching again.

LOL The do as I say, not as I do method. ;)

Congrats ..... 3 plates aside seems to be the goal of most guys , not many get there without injury .

Off the juice i don't go much heavier then that because i pre- defeat with dips and incline dumbells before hand . On the juice !!! it's 310 lbs for 8 reps , 350 for 8 reps
400 for 6 and up from there depending on my mood .

Deca puts my bench through the roof ... it's always the deca test d-bol cycles that see new bench highs for me ...

Once you've broke that mental barrier of 3 plates aside your good to go , you'll find 350 is not to hard to get soon enough :)
