belts

If you use a belt when squatting, it helps you put up more weight so, wihtout relying on one, would it be better to train with a belt? I mean you should get better gains if your doing 5 reps of 300 without a belt, and 5 sets of 330 with a belt, right? Just curious because right now I don't train with a belt, but was wondering what all the advantages were. Thanks :) and off the topic, im still having problems with my biceps  they just wont grow. heh thanks.

you're way better off without one. When you use one, the stabilizing muscles never have a chance to grow along with the rest of you, creating an imbalance, which can easily lead to injury. Plus, the belt builds up a huge amount of pressure, which is looking for a place to get out. So if you have any weak muscles, BANG, hernia

I agree with needsize no belt except for max lifts. You may be able to work the legs harder but your back wont get stronger in relation to your legs. The goal is to build the body as a unit.

i agree with both of you, with the exception of max lifts or in you have a back injury, steer clear of the belt....i have to use one when i squat, as i have si issues....

Myself, i dont even like them for maxes, they throw off my form as I'm not used to using them.

its a good idea not to use one. put say that its better to use them and lift more weight. instead its just a way to disguise a weakness.

TRAIN YOUR CORE!!!!
