Bellsouth DSL Rant

I'm on a mission to get people off Bellsouth. Those fuckers have *totally* screwed-up POP-based email and Outlook.

If you use Outlook and send SMTP mail, you have to use *their* SMTP server even if you get your email from some other provider (i.e. Covad). So you have to configure your incoming mail to your provider, and your outgoing mail through them.

So then, you take your laptop with you and connect to some other network that isn't Bellsouth DSL, and *their* SMTP server refuses to let you access it since you aren't originating from *their* DSL.

Fucking assholes. I'm switching to Comcast but I hope others leave them as well. I called their technical support and they said it was to prevent people from sending spam. WTF? Professional spammers aren't going to be inhibited by a rookie move like this anyway, and that's where the shit comes from.

What if you don't use Outlook?

You can use web-based access, but then you don't get the email archival and management abilities that Outlook or Outlook Express has.

If you had a desktop computer using Outlook or Outlook Express you'd still be ok, but if you are mobile you basically have to change your account settings every time you leave the house.

Bellsouth DSL is the suck.
