being a bouncer

yeah, id like to know too...although it does make me nervous...there are two stories around my area recently...with bouncers possibly being charged with killing someone...one happened two blocks from my place at penn state

You become a bouncer by announcing on a bull horn in a public place "I'm a bouncer, bounce away", after that you are an official bouncer for life, good luck.

to each his own and all, and i wont flame ya cuz i dont know ya, but that might be the dumbest shit iv heard in my life...actually it is...

Wow, did you just get your hearing back today then, maybe it's the dumbest thing you have heard for this hour of the day.

Its like this: you=stupid

You just earned yourself red karma every time I can give it to you for as long as I am on elite. It's only a matter of time before you are banned.

But

I guess it doesn't really matter since you have multiple handles...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wish I would come in contact with people like you in reality to show you what reality is.

A) I dont have multiple handles

B) I would fold you like a pretzel

I was a bouncer at a Bourbon Street club in New Orleans for about a year during college. You get a bunch of crap from a lot of drunks trying to get in that are under 21, plus you have to deal with the rowdy ones on the inside as well... However, the amount of girls that hit on you is enormous, so I guess that may outweigh the various negatives about the job. I didn't care for the job in particular...my friend bounced at Rick's Cabaret down the street, a popular strip club, and became bored with the shit that goes on as well.

If I were big I'd be a bouncer.

I'm not big though. Hmmmm. Maybe I could be a bouncer at a midget bar.

They let you bounce in a club at 17? I assumed age would be 21 ...

I had a friend who was a bouncer in a bar when he was about 17. Looked like he was 25 though, lol.

1. size does not matter too much for being a bouncer. At the bar I worked at one of our best was 5'6" and 140lbs.

2. Hammer is right it's who you know!

3. Your head will serve you better than your fists.

4. Women only really like you for the power to get them in. They don't care who you are if you stop working there.

5. It's all fine and well till you have to physically throw a person your father's age out the door. Then you realize how truly sad life can be.

Cheers,
Scotsman

Man, your skull must be thicker than a 45 pound plate. And you are a pussy too, because you damn well know I dont live in New York.

Really, PH would wipe the floor with the lot of you.

Being a bouncer is about knowing the right people... also, it is about intimidation... lol -- being able to talk people out, rather than throw them out... that is the mark of a good bouncer.

uh oh...its boiling up...are bouncers employed by the actual bars, or a service...sorta like rent a cops?

Most of the ones I worked at you were paid cash by the manager- that way if anything happend- theoretically I guess you don't really work there....

its good to have a "small"-ish guy to hold the "list" and do the talking, and then a huge guy who has the appearance of a "dumb brute", so this way the small guy does the talking, but people are afraid of fucking up around the big guy, cause hes dumb and wont be able to control himself..."no beast, dont hit him, NO HELL LEAVE DONT HIT HIM"

Lol, I did it when I was 19 and chucking people in their 30's and 40's out always made me laugh and feel sorry for them, especially if they got hurt.

This is very true. Its a combination of physical intimidation, and people skills. They are usually underpaid though. I think you have to enjoy the whole scene in order to like doing that job. I dont know too many well paid bouncers.

polishhammer1977, nighthawkk, BO-DEN, slobberknocker, scotsman, becoming, and c-ditty...thanks for answering..its hard to get some serious answers here!! thanks again. tb

...

Id say none of this shit really matters for one simple fact.

Magmans avatar.

how can anyone care about stupid stuff like boucers or wars or racism when you can just sit and look and that avatar in all its glory.

Magman we are BEGGING you to give us more sample of that awesomeness

anyone who runs a bar properly wont think size menas shit, I am only 5'6 and just under 190 and I got a job just by talking to the head of security and he realized I have my shit together.
Someone who can talk and associate with people on their level is what you need, there are some situations you cant avoid getting physical but a good bar will train you to remove people in different situations. Ive learned a few more joint locks from the guys there and they work great.

I will try to post the use of force chart I have so you guys can see what force is acceptable legally so you dont get burned and end up in jail over stupid shit

I will attest to this for sure. The power of speech was my most useful too in diffusing volatile situations...

One myth must be dispelled here and now....being a bouncer DOES NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT give you authority to physically assault someone when you deem fit. There have often been times when we would have to toss some asshole back out onto Bourbon Street, but that was only AFTER he would refuse to cooperate and was posing a danger to others and to himself, usually by either assaulting a patron or staff member. My friend that work at Rick's Cabaret on the next block actually had to make a court appearance for assault and battery because he and 2 other bouncers mauled this guy and broke his jaw and nose before letting NOPD come in and do their job. So all you guys that think the reality of the job is being a tough guy and getting a lot of ass, think again. It is a low-pay job with a lot of stress, and which it also requires enormous distcretion and tolerance. There are a lot better jobs out there, trust me.

friend who bounced told me in most cases it is much better to facillitate and, if need be intimdate rather than agitate. every time i have seen someone cause trouble in a bar or club, they are swarmed quickly, subdued and removed. i dont want to know what happens when it goes outside.

In a decnt club, not much happens after someone gets tossed, unless they try to come back in. For all of you tards saying the key to get into bouncing is who you know.... ....not quite sure where you get that from......I bounced for 6 different bars/clubs, and each time I got the job by asking if they were hiring.....period. My reputation preceded me once I ran security at one of the larger clubs, so that helped. I now am a partner in a club here in the STL, and I can assure you, I wouldn't hire any 17 year olds, for one it's illegal in MO. You can't be employed in an establishment that has open containers if you are under 18. Not to mention the fact, that if we ever had a fight like three New Years ago, when I had two collegiate defensive lines, rolling and g'd out, beating the piss out of each other......I don't think I would want some wet behind the ears 17 year old trying to break that up. With the job title comes a great deal of responsibility......the key factor is knowing when enough is enough to keep the situation from escalating to violence.......I know all you hard asses think you are above the law........sorry not the case. You as well as the bar are liable for any and all injuries you might inflict on someone else. All this being said, it's great work if you are in school or as a second income......unless you live in Vegas, and can survive on 45,000 a year......
