Beginner at working out

I need to find something that's low-impact. I have sport injuries to my knees from years ago. And I'm starting to work out again. Right now I only have access to working out at home. I have good and bad days. Some days I can go walk, other times I can't. I'm just looking for suggestion other then the normal ... walking, jogging, etc. Is there something else that I can do for cardio that won't risk further injury.

Thanks.

personally if i were u i would start off with alot of basic stretching followed by a brisk walk. add more stretches with longer walks as your body adapts to your new excercise program. take it slow and make it fun. excercise is supposed to be enjoyable.

Stretching will cause injuries if you do not warm up properly and is of marginal benefit.

I have some suggestions for you:

1) Get a stack of Glucosamine/Condriton/MSM. The one I suggest is "Move Free" as it has the largest dosage of MSM. You can find it at CVS or whatever drug store.

2) Go to a professional running store that does gait analysis and have them look at the way you run and fit you with the best shoes for you. You wouldn't just buy any tires for your car, right? They would have to be the right size/type. Do the same for your feet.

3) If you are restricted to home and need something to mix up the running with, there is a very inexpensive piece of cardio equipment known as a "Gazelle." It has no impact involved. Here is a link to one for under $100 to get you started in your search:

I've used one of these and they are pretty stable and kind of fun.

4) Join a gym and take advantage of their expensive eliptical machines or spinning classes. Maybe try to find a pool. I don't know why you are restricted to your house but if you can scrape together the dimes for a gym membership, I'd suggest it.

Stretching is of marginal benefit? I always feel real good after a nice long stretching session. Do you mean for cardio? Still, that doesn't even make sense.

SynPax,

Glucosamine/Condriton/MSM, I have taken Glucosamine and Condrition, but what is MSM?

Right now I'm looking into a subsadized (spelling) membership to the local YMCA, since my current personal situation won't allow me to work, but my fiance would be able to afford it on that level, and it wouldn't do much damage in other finanical areas of our life.

I have heard of the Gazelle, and I will look into it. Thanks for the advice.

I will be able to go swimming this summer also, until I can find something better for cardio.

CAn't remember what MSM is, but it works. It's probably the most effective among the three. Google it and you'll get your answer.

Good luck.
