Beer?

New member
I think I can stick with a good workout/diet routine. My question is how bad would alcohol affect my weight loss/muscle gain?

Is it safe to cut down on my food intake during a day I plan on going out and drinking in order to offset the carb intake? Do those carb absorption inhibitors really work for this kind of stuff?

Its not that I need to drink but that I'm a really shy bastard when it comes to going out with friends and I NEED to throw back a bunch in order to be more sociable.

I was under the impression that it was beer and coolers and the sort that was bad for you.

If you need to drink, go for the Vodka 7. It's vodka and DIET 7-up.
It is supposed to be the lowest carb drink out there now!!

But I don't know how bad just alcohol is for your diet in terms of carbs and such.

I believe everything in moderation. I'm jsut more mindful of what I want out of life now; so now i workout, and trying to go at it hard.
But that doesn't stop me from an occassional beer with the boys ;)

empty calories

If you want to take alcohol, vodka or red wine would be better choice

Like I said, I know its bad for you. Drinking alcohol will not help me get into shape.

Its not that I don't have the willpower to resist...its that I'm extremely introverted and I think going out with my friends would be hell w/o throwing a few back.

I was thinking that, perhaps, instead of having 5th or 6th meal that day that perhaps skipping it would be favorable.

I'll have to try the vodka/diet 7-up thing. I hope bars carry that stuff though.

why would they not? it's a bar right? vodka is everywhere.....?or will your mates laugh at you for drinking diet 7up or something?

don't skip a meal just for alcohol, that's just dunce. keep it to a mminumum

actually that's a real issue (I'm pretty serious here)

Asking for diet soda or plain water when everybody drinks alcohol or beer is not that simple

Especially when you're a guy

Alcohol plays an integral role - unfortunately - in social life

Don't skip a meal, and my main concern would be the alcohol content not the few carbs, and if you are going to drink milk that sh*t.

Alcohol deflates the sh*t out of my muscles. It makes you piss out all of your water weight. I rarely drink, but when I do, I drink more water than usual during the day, and as soon as I get home I drink as much water as I can to try and keep the dehydration to a minimum.

I always feel guilty as hell, after a night out drinking. I now tell my friends I don't drink any more and they respect me for it, but I still cheat on bike week or other big events here.

Yeah I asked for a jack and diet coke once. I felt immasculated. Anyway, that's not too big of a deal. I'm more concerned with a bar having more diet sodas than just diet coke. My immediate concern about trying vodka and diet 7-up was the availability of the 7-up.

I also heard scotch was one of the better liquors. From what i understand it and vodka are one of the few alcohols that don't kick you out of ketosis. Hence they are almost completely alcohol instead of alcohol and sugars.

I'm completely up for drinking more water a day before I drink, more when I come home, and more the next day.

I would think that because wine is made with grapes that the wine would contain simple sugars which are bad. Honestly, I can drink wine/beer/liquor so I'm down for any suggestions.

Wow, that is definately true. Being a college kid I get alot of shit. When I'm drinking here at my place, I choose bacardi superior and diet coke. When we leave though, i'm forced to drink beer because I can't really bring a 5th and a 2 liter of diet coke to some house party.

Anyway....bacardi superior is KEY if you want to limit cals when drinking. Fucking beer gut......

Thats when you bring a 64 OZ Mug that has been premixed with liquor and diet soda...believe me, I've been there ;).

I would feel weird carrying a big gulp around talking to the ladies :D good advice though.

you should try some bacardi rum. they have a bunch of flavors....bacardi razz and all that stuff. they mix well with everything.

here's a link:

As weird as it sounds, I find Dt Sunkist (vodka and Bacardi) and diet cream soda (dash of captain morgan's parrot bay) can be a hella good mixers if you like those tastes.

otherwise i'd sip water, no beer for me. that's worse than death!

a glass of wine is 70 cals a pop.

in a bar?

not a pub, but a bar? why the stigma. i'm still confused.

Try mixing your favorite liquor with water. You get the exact opposite effect than of mixing w/ diet soda...no one is going to criticize a man for drinkin a jack and water.

Now, Jack and water will take a while to get used to...but now its my drink of choice. If I decide to go with vodka and water I usually need a twist of lime.

All that aside though - once I changed my diet to limit carbs, I get severely dehydrated when I drink...crushing hangovers after only a few drinks. I'm gonna try more water, but the punishment has made me change my drinking habits already.

I just wish they would come out w/ a protein based alcohol. Can we try distilling a steak or something?

Well, I don't go to bars yet since I'm not 21. If I was at the bars I would definetly order something with diet coke and not care.

Mostly house and apartment parties sometimes frat parties is where I'm drinkin

hmmmmmmm I've had around 20 keytones tonight so far......

so approx.............2000 kcal injection straight into my gut.........

good lord :D

Miller light has like 3 carbs, and has some essential amino acids in it. It will dehydrate you less than wine or hard liquor. Arnold used to down a pitcher with his post workout meal. I say, that if working out, and how you look, prevent you from going out and having a few beers for a good time, then you have totaly lost the reason for working out in the first place. I drink once or twice a week, but make sure to stay very hydrated, and stay away from any sugary drinks, except for wine.

read some article about alcohol relating to fat distribution.....

according to the article, beer was worst for abdominal fat, with wine placing second, and hard alcohol placing 3rd (or first, depending on how you look at it)

but...the article also brought up that while hard alcohol causes less abdominal fat storage, it somehow encourages internal fat storage around the actual organs...which can cause some problems.

anyway, the article concluded that overall, wine is the worst hangover-wise, beer causes the "beer gut" the worst while hard liquor doesn't....yet hard liquor is the worst for you health wise because of this internal fat storage stuff.

k... yup.
