Been on Accutane for a week... help

GearCowboy

...and my lips are fine, but I bought 5 things of blistex that I leave everywhere and use all day long. And my skin hasn't gotten much dryer. I have started to get a little more acne on my face, which I never had a problem with before, but I heard that you break out first...

I was wondering how long does it usually take before:

1) Your lips crack, bleed, etc.
2) Your skin starts to dry and crack.
3) Your acne actually starts to go away

THANKS!!

Hey man--I was accutane and it sucks balls. Wait another two weeks then your lips will be in pain and you will be soaking them in chapstick every 5 minutes. It took me about 2-3 weeks before my face was shedding uncontrollably and the acne went away at 3 months but it has stayed away and its been 2 years. The sucky thing was that I got thrown in jail for 24 hrs and that was when my lips were the worst and i kept licking them and i couldnt stop, then the pain got so bad because they took my chapstick away that I used mayonnaise from the sandwiches they passed out to moisten my lips. Good Luck

Hey bro I used Blistex some but mostly walked around with Vasoline and lubed my lips inside my nose for the whole 3 months man and drink water. It also makes lights really bright at night!

I've been on accutane for over 6 months-it'll take more than a week for your skin to clear up and ,yes, its normal to break out a little before the healing starts.
Accutane isn't like antibiotics-it actually changes the consistency of your pores -shrinking them and drying them up over time so that oil becomes minimized.
Lips become dryer-use blistex all day.Bleeding and cracking doesn't necessarily happen to everyone.(blistex!blistex!blistex!) Drink much water-stay out of sun-and bright lights do begin to bother the eyes eventually.Everyone reacts differently to the drug, depending on sensitivity and dosage, but I've had almost no problems with it.
It has dried up and cleared my back and shoulders after two years of very bad zits.It became noticeable in about 2 months-your shoulders and back are the last parts of your body to react to the accutane;that sucks, but, its life.
Once your face clears up you'll have the clearest skin on your face you've ever had. I think the stuff is amazing.
Eventually, when you stop-most people never suffer outbreaks again, although I haven't gotten to that point yet.

Wow gear, i need to email you bro, You are going to have to keep me up dated every few days.

I am gonna start Accutane as soon as i finish this cycle and get health insurance from my school.

Anyways, i was thinking...

What about front loading with B5 (10 grams a day) , for the first month prior to getting on Accutane, and the Next two months while on Accutane.

Something like this..

Month 1 : B5 10g's daily
Month 2-3 : Accutane + B5 10g's daily
Month 4 - 6: Accutane

Do you guys think this will reduce the INITIAL breakouts from accutane?

I react very well to B5, But what do the rest of you think?

Peace

I always break out bad in the beginning when I take Acctuane. My lips want to crack and my skin dries up bad. In about 3-4 weeks you should clear up but the side effects do suck.

It ain't gonna be no part bro. You'll break out bad (if you got it bad) in the fist month.. but after that it should get better each week. (did for me) Heres something your gonna need.. JOHNSON & JOHNSON purpose lotion.. its non-comegenic and a great moisturizer.. your skin will cry without it..

I used chapstick blistex gets messy

Another fucking awesome tip is to buy some Liquid Conceler from the womens makeup section.

I know you might look hella gay buying it LOL,

iF You get tha ALMAY brands, i believe they have moisterizer in them and are noncomogenic or whatever tha fuck.

This will definatly help cover up the redness, Just make sure you get one that matches your skin!

The first month or two is the worst for me. My skin was pretty oily and once the accutane started working everything dried up quick. Everything is dry and cracking especially my lips. No amount of blistex seems to help. I put vasoline on my lips before going to sleep at night and that helps a little.

I was on Accutane when I was 15. And like my doctor told me, it will get worse before it gets better. So don't freak if it gets worse. I had severe acne on my back and chest. After about 4 months of being on Accutane it was completely gone. My lips were dry as hell, but that was the only side I had from it. Good luck bro.

Listen, don't use blistex. Get Aquaphore and use it everyday. I use it everyday and my lips are fine with no cracking while on 80 mgs of Accutane. Stick some up your nose too, it'll keep it from drying up and bleeding.

Great advice guys!! I'm definetly NOT looking forward to the next month on this stuff... I have some aquaphore that I was using for my heels (i wear sandals all the time so they crack), so I give it a try when my lips start to get dryer. Thanks again

YOUR LIPS WILL START TO CRACK PRETTY BAD. TRY TO STAY OUT OF THE SUN WHILE ON ACCUTANE. YOU WILL BE GLAD YOU'VE TAKEN IT AFTER YOU FINISH BUT NOT WHILE YOUR ON.

PS.......WHOEVER MENTIONED AQUAPHORE...THXX

Aquaphore is over the counter. I got mine at CVS. Got a big plastic jar for $15. Also comes in smaller tubes.
