Is there any negative effects to a protein shake before bed? I'm considering taking 1 scoop around bedtime, which is 20g of protein. My goal right now is cutting, would the shake at night effect this?
 
from everything i've read, this is not a bad idea. Stay away from any carbs, as your body will just store them during your slumber.
I'll down a few eggs about an hour before bed, or sometimes a shake.

Your body needs something to feed and repair your broken down muscles while you sleep. If you don't eat prior to bedtime, then you're essentially fasting and starving your muscles for 8+ hours; something you would NEVER do while being awake.

Agreed. I usually down a shake or pure protein <tuna,chicken> before bed time.
