Bear defense

Let's say you had to spend a few days in an area known for having brown bear/grizzly. While are chances of such encounter are minimal there's always a little 0.5% so what would you carry ?

I was thinking about either a Marlin 45-70 lever action or good ol' shotgun loaded with slugs.

I hunt bear during black powder season, so in reality you get one shot. It's illegal to carry a modern pistol as a backup......but I do anyway. I use a Taurus snub nose 44, I prefer a revolver for hunting. A guy I used to hunt with is a pretty bad shot and he can't track worth a damn, so I had to track and finish off a bear he had wounded. I'm not Davy Crocket, I would rather have a good back up weapon for those situations.

Those new pepper sprays designed for bears are supposed to work really well.

For a firearm...i chose slugs also.

The only thing I have that could serve as a "semi-decent" back-up pistol would be my Glock 29 10mm with a 5" compensated barrel. I'd have to load it with some 200gr ball ammo but honestly, I dont really trust this pistol for bear defense... especially when dealing with a Grizzly...

I would carry a bear spray. Our president is trying to change things but ass of be4 his cadency Clinton put laws on the books that banned carying of firearms and or hunting in many national and state parks /trails areas. What an idiotic law. Hikers, mountain bikers and outdoorsmen not being able to protect thier selves and children from wild animals! For me it woul dhave to be the 15% bear spray with a 60ft cone spray range or fogger and my Paraordanance CCW or Glock21, or a good old Springleild 1911
