Be careful using credit cards over internet folks!

Listen, I am a computer programmer for 20 years. I have extensive experience in Internet Related Technologies and Security. I lost my wallet 15 years ago, and had someone impersonating me, opening credit accounts all along the east coast. Since then, I have been extremely careful with my information. I guess you could say I am downright anal about my information and assets. So as far as it being my fault, I highly doubt it. I can go into about how anal I am regarding my home computer (Firewall, Virus Protection, don't download anything, etc, etc). I know the leak was on their end!

I just had my wallet solen in NYC last week.. I cancelled all my cards and put a fraud alert on my credit report.

bro, I really doubt you can claim it's one company or the other. That's impossible to do.

No matter how many firewalls you have, someone can still sniff your network traffic, how do you know it's not your upstream being sniffed? or the CC merchant being sniffed?

you buy from amazon, as an example, and next day someone uses your credit card, doesn't mean amazon lost your info, it could mean many things. I've had shit like this happen to me and later found out that my cc was stolen by a guy at the ISP sitting sniffing outgoing traffic and my info was the lucky info to be seen.

Russian mafia, IT dept., has very good ways of setting up relay trojans and worms to collect data, as well as hacking. Even paypal was hacked at one point.

Hard to blame one place or the other bro, very hard to do that. You're a programmer, you should know that.

I work in an internet company "investigations" (fraud) department. There are so many ways people get their numbers ripped off. Hell, the checkout clerk could copy the number from your receipt and give it to someone else. Then there are the fools that fall for phishing scams.

Also, if they changed the address, then they had to have access to your bank's online site requiring a password, or they were able to call your bank and verify their phone security info (mothers maiden name, social sec #). So it would seem that whoever did this has more information about you than what would be submitted in an online order.

Yeah and it's just as bad using it in public too, like at a restaurant where they take your card into the backroom where you can't see them. Or some places even have receipts (store's copy) with your full card number on them...wtf, why the hell is this even legal? Why does everything have to be so fucking complicated these days? I'll probably never have kids because by the time they're my age the state of the world will be such a convoluted mess the way things are going. Who would want to bring kids into that? With every "improvement" comes another fucking headache. I'm in a pissed off mood today because I've been experiencing bullshit exponentially so far this week.
