BCAAs

Hi guys,
I usually take my BCAAs right after exercise, and my Whey 30mins post work out. Is this ok? I use Optimum Nutrition BCAAs and Whey Protein, and I was wondering, by taking Whey Protein, do I still need to take BCAAs?

Thank You,

Erik B

How much whey and BCAA's are you taking? If you're taking 50+ grams of whey protein and just a gram or two of bcaa's it's not worth it. Personally, I think taking straight bcaa's is only advantageous/cost effective immediately prior or during yoru workout. My workout shake has 20g of bcaa's and it has definitely helped my recovery.

I take only one serving of whey (31g), i wheigh 76kg (1.76m tall, 39cm biceps). U think that is too little Whey? I also take 3 500mg pillsd of BCAA right after Workout. I have noticed a slight, prolonged "post workout hardening" since taking the BCAA, and the Personal Trainer in my Gymn said that for my weight, that would be enough. What do u think? (In the BCAAs tub it says 4 pills per day, 2 post and 2 during workouts). I was also told that since I go karateing 40mins after w.o., then BCAAs ought to help me not loose muscles.

BTW: According to Bodybuilding.com's dosage, my dosage is correct for my body weight. (Wow, you take 20g of BCAAs, how much u weigh?)

Thank You

Taking 10 more grams of whey protein postworkout or making your shake with 16oz milk instead of water is probaly more effective, it gives you more BCAA's and essential aminos. I weigh about 110kg at 1.78m, my bi's are about 46 cm. An old article by Charles Poliquin explained how he used BCAA's and he said anything under 15g taken immediately before or during a workout is a waste. IMO, if you're waiting until after your workout to take BCAA's it's too late, their primary use is during workouts. If cost is an issue you're better off adding more protein than just individual amino acids.
