Protein/amino acids is the most important following workout.
And immensely more important taken before workout! Amino acids increase protein synthesis independently of carbs/insulin, and sensitivity to protein synthesis is highly elevated during workout (also for 24 h following workout)
When you take 0.4-0.5 g whey 30 min. pre workout, the net effect on protein synthesis will be tremendously higher than when taken post workout.

When you allready take whey protein, amino acids are hardly going to be of additional value.
BCAA may shown some additional value (they decrease protein breakdown)

And please dump the glutamine.

Way back when, when I was about 15 yrs. old reading muscle and fitness magazine, I always read that the BCAA's were the ones to take right after working out. Lou Ferrigno in the ad even said so. As far as MY gains while using it? I saw absolutely no benefit in wasting 25 dollars (my monthly allowance) a bottle for those. But that's just me.

Why would he want to dump the glutamine......Keep it in there man
BCAAs before and after training

This must be falling on deaf ears....obviously, the supplement market has more than a few people brainwashed.

I'm actually surprised at the number of "fitness professionals" that still recommend taking L-glutamine. Seeing as how much money is spent in the supplement industry, I have no doubt that any negative studies would be supressed by large companies.

On the other hand, why do you think there's so many postive studies that reach the general public on creatine? Because it actually works = big time sales.

L-glutamine is a TOTAL waste of money. Unless, of course, you get off feeding your small intestine expensive powder that is almost 100% degraded by the time your GI tract is done with it.

But hey, it's your money, not mine. And I hear the placebo effect can be quite strong.

Glutamine peptides may be another story, but the jury is still out. In theory, the peptide-bonded glutamine has the ability to pass the unstable enviroment of the GI tract and can be taken up into the bloodstream (and eventually skeletal muscle). I think the AF store used to pitch a form of glutaime peptides, but I can't seem to find it on their site anymore.

L-glutamine? Nope. Not unless you plan on starting an intravenous drip and injecting it directly. All positive studies with l-glutamine were done on burn patients recieving IV doses.

Dump the glutamine, buy some quality whey, and take it before and after training.
