Its an Indian white rice that counts as a brown rice because it still has its kernel, i love the stuff and eat tons, go grab a bag.

Yeah, and if I recall correctly it has a super low GI. One of the lowest of the grains. I need to get me some.

exactly,

it has a low GI (like brown rice and pasta)
and it tastes good:p :p

What?

This list came from a GI index:

Rice (basmati)
GI 83

Rice (brown)
GI 79

Rice (parboiled)
GI 68

Rice (jasmin)
GI 81

Can you please give me a link to a GI index where basmati would be superlow?

I would consider anything under 50 to be low, with 50-70 moderate.

However, that mendosa list is new, and alot of values have changed. Most remarkably is the value for American Oatmeal (porridge). Its at 75 which is rather high. The old list had the value listed at around 50. hmmm, I guess the old list was based on Australian oatmeal.

The Basmati rice on the new list is 58, which isn't bad at all.

There are 2 GI lists:

1 based on the white bread index
1 based on the glucose index

with different numbers
