$800??? god damn bro. i hope that happens to me one night? were u guys short a bartender or something? my boss was telling me that the one place he works at on friday nights, he usually makes around $350. the one bartender he was supposed to work with called out so he ended making about $725 or so..

all depends on type of bar, town, hours, etc etc
but hell yeah I had a blast, I bartended for 4 years of my life in a big college town... How much funner can it get when you stand their getting paid pouring liquids, while girls game on you all night just to get free rounds

did a little, its amusing. i wouldnt do the course personally...just get as much experience as possible and befriend/network all the managers. the course means very little - socializing means EVERYTHING
The dudes at Alibi all make over 80K a year for work 3 nights a week. That is in tips alone. Their paychecks are always exactly ZERO. They earn enough to cover taxes, health insurance and a match for their 6% 401K that the bar gives them. (Enough to be about $30 every two weeks) Good money.
They have some bartending schools down here that are complete scams. I mean they take your money, teach a bit and then you learn when you get out there you start as a waiter or barback first and if the bar is good, it will take YEARS to earn a coveted bartender spot.
Unless you are mixing shit at TGIF or some backass watering hole, you better have good looks, hot body, great smile, and a following already to even get an INTERVIEW for a spot.
But once you in, you in for life. Easy money, nice atmosphere (since it is already nonsmoking now) you get to watch sports on tv while you work, and all the dick and ass you can handle each night.
When I retire after 40, I can honestly see myself moving to another country and emerging myself in the scene there as a bartender.

long time ago, in a popular nightclub in new jersey, the bartenders pulled in 800-1200 on a saturday night. that's was in it's peak. you have to be hot chick or be connected to get a job bartending places like that. lol, i'm thinking of the movie Cocktail now. i also remember the male bartenders getting a ton of bitches. another thing, it seems to me alot of bartenders at popular nightclubs are big on coke.
ive bartended art a few spots in jersey...now i just do private gigs and paties, the moneys always great...i worked a halloween party for 5 hours, walked out with 600 cash, ate all the food i wanted and hooked up with a hot piece of ass at the party...i basically got paid to hang out and occasionally make a vodka red bull...like others said its ALL personality

I practically grew up in the industry so I did it all from bar-back to tending to managing. Personally, since I am very high energy and LOVE to socialize it was a great match for me and the money was ALWAYS good. 
Downside is you have to deal with drunks. And I dont care how they are dressed when they come in sober. They will still be RAGING ASSHOLES after a few drinks just the same. Experience taught me how to handle them pretty well, but it was quite an education....

i love social environments too but bikinimom is so right...the people that try to come off as the most well mannered, richest, highest class etc are often the drunk jerkofs who dont know how to act...but whatever, the moneys great, youre gonna find assholes in any walk of life
