Barbell Extensions on Floor?

i do them with barbells and dbells. with dbells I actually pause the weight on the floor and then explode (relative term) up to lockout.

good exercises.

i sense sarcasm...if not....allow me to inject some sarcasm into that statement. :chomp:

no, there is no sarcasm there. when you are doing an extension and you are laying on a bench, you are driving your feet into the ground, much like you would if you were benching. whether you know it or not, this will help to give you a little more drive into the lift. when you lay on the ground, you cannot push off on the ground (assuming that your legs are straight out in front of you.) this makes the lift harder, because you can't push with your legs. Also, people tend to anchor their feet underneath something when they do EZ bar extensions while laying on a bench. This is done because with heavier weight, you get lifted off the bench if you dont anchor your feet down. lay on the ground with your feet straight out in front of you, and dont anchor your feet, and you will see how much harder it actually is.
sorry, i should have explained that a little better earlier, but i was in a hurry the other day.

hmm....i don't drive at all. pushing off the ground to me is a moot point because the bar has to travel backwards against the direction i'm pushing. if you are referring to tensing up, I pretty much arch regardless of laying flat on the floor or on a bench. ive done skullcrushers many different ways, the only time i needed to be anchored down is when i put my feet UP on the bench. its all a matter of opinion. it definitely takes some of the full body tension out of the picture which makes the movement harder. your CNS cant get as fired up so people "feel" its harder.
