working out at home this past week and the next 3, need to cause i can't get to the university's gym (and it's gonna be closed for almost 2 weeks anyway). so i go to do my first 5x5 leg day.....
can't put too much on my bar cause my concrete filled weights are huge. most i can get on it is about 160lbs. ok, well, i figured i can work squats that low, my PR is 265 for 5. i wanted to start at 185, but oh well. anyway...
load the bar up on the floor, then get it up and put it on supports on the bench. i had a last minute thought of not being able to get it up, i mean, 160lbs is my bodyweight, but i got it up easier than i thought i would. ok, this is gonna be easy....or so i thought. tried to get it off the bench and onto my shoulders in one move....no go. supports aren't high enough. i've only ever squatted in the power rack, so i don't know anything else. then i try a different approach. i pick the bar up, put it up over my head, then behind my neck. at that instant i realized i was gonna have HELL getting it down again. somehow i got it back off of me w/out dropping it. now while i'm pissed that i can't do this safely, i'm also amazed that i moved that much weight like that.
so i drop some weight. try again.....not a good idea. drop some more. i'm down to 120lbs now. i finally managed to pull off a few squat sets at that weight, but damn was i pissed. then, after i'm done my workout, i remember that i could've loaded up my backpack with a shitload of weight and squatted like that, but was already worn out and too pissed off to do it.
the rest of the workout went off w/out a hitch really. i was fine with hacksquats, and stiff leg deads (i accidentily 5x5'ed these on tuesday instead of regular deads) i did more today than i did on tuesday (only my 2nd time too! 86lbs! i'm moving up!

some of these movements i have to be careful with, cause otherwise i'll f'up my lower back again, and i do NOT want that. so i'm just starting the deads slowly. best way to do it too!
ok, i'm done ranting. just wanted to vent and my girlfriend doesn't really understand why this pissed me off so much today. thanks for listening!
btw, gonna check out other squat styles to see what else i can try.
