Back At It...OHP Day...10-14-02

b fold the truth

Elite Strongman
Platinum
Well, felt like crap and I felt antsy and tired all at the same time. Thought that I'd see what happened if I put icy hot over my joints, threw on lots of clothes...and did some gym work tonight.

Viking Press
50 x 10
100 x 5
150 x 5 x 5 sets, 2 minutes rest between sets, different width grips on each set

Lying Dbell Tricep Extensions
11’s x 20 x 4 sets, 15 seconds rest between sets

Tricep Push Downs
50 x 10 x 3 sets, 15 seconds rest between sets

Lat Pull Downs
50 x 15 x 4 sets, 15 seconds rest between sets, different grips on each set

Took a brisk walk up and down the driveway a few times…about 1,000 feet. Still trying to get the oxygen back into my lungs. The 50-degree weather is wonderful if you are having a hard time catching your breath:).

Captain Of Crush Grippers
Trainer, 5 reps with right and left hand
#1, 5 reps with right and left hand
#2, 3 full reps and 2 partial reps with right and left hand
#3, 1 partial rep with each hand
Trainer, 10 reps with each hand for 2 sets each

Bfold . . . have you ever repped out with the #1?

I can crank 20 with my right, 18 with my left, but oddly enough, I can barely get the #2 for 2 or 3 reps with my right and barely 1 rep with my left.

Of course, doing deadlifts 3 days a week doesn't really help out with my gripper training, ontop of every other grip-oriented free weight exercise . . . :)

I plan to start doing reps with the #1 soon.

Deads 3x per week? Are you crazy? lol...

I plan to do reps AND do some holds for time...

ALMOST got the #3 closed today...while showing some friends in class. They had been impressed that they could almost close one...it was the "trainer". I'll get the #3.

My buddy does some metal work and I gave him specs for a viking press and some other things. I can't wait. Now seeing these pics, I'm getting all ancy and giddy like a little kid:D

Great job! The fact that you have big hands really helps out! So...they are good for two things!

Two things????

"Deads 3x per week? Are you crazy? lol..."

I used to think I was crazy, until I started deadlifting 3X a week :)

Now, I KNOW I'm crazy. My appetite has increased SO MUCH since I started this whole high volume/high frequency Eastern Bloc style powerlifting stuff. Point in case: I ate an entire Red Barron's Pizza last night at 3:00 AM in about 30 minutes.

That's 1300 kcal, 50 grams of protein, too much fat, 60 grams of carbs. I usually can't do that kind of stuff . . .

The weird thing is, my lower back feels FINE, and DOMS leaves my whole body about 24 hours after my workout, despite the fact that I'm squatting, beching and DL'ing 3X a week with 80% of my 1RM.

This is coming from a guy who used to think that training any compound movement more than once a week was heresy.

I definitely think, that for powerlifters, high volume/high frequency training can be incredible at increasing limit strength provided that such training is accompanied with assistance for lifter-specific weaknesses, and provided that every repetition is done with maximal acceleration (though the LS can go up dramatically even when working slowly).

If you're interested, check out my new thread, From Russia with Sadistic Love.

I see what you mean....but I don't think that my body can handle that. Not with the rest of my workouts...

Well bfold, after 5 workouts, I don't think that mine can either.

I'm probably going to drop down to 3 deadlift workouts every two weeks, instead of 3 every week.

You do strongman stuff anyhow, events and all that - you're absolutely right, especially being natural, it would be foolish and counterproductive for you to try and deadlift with 80% of your 1RM 3X weekly.

Hell, all I do is go to school and workout 3X weekly, and I can hardly even take it!

You have to find what works for your body best...
