avodart and test

I am a 49 yr male. currently on testosterone (and deca) Replacement therapy about 300mg/wk test levels were low. I have been on uroxatrol for about 3 mos. now for weak stream and urgency. seems to act up when I am on thermogenics the urologist just ordered avodart for me saying that this drug actually helps to shrink the prostrate when taken on a long term basis.
My question: when I read the circular about the avodart it is classified as a androgen hormone inhibitor. although the claim is that it reduces the size of the prostrate. will this drug interfere with the testosterone therapy? What is the hormone that is responsible for prostrate growth?
Thanks

Have you had your Estradiol or PSA (prostate specific antigen) tested recently? Those may provide more clues as to what is happening. What are your T levels. When my doc uped my T to 150mg/week, the lead doc went bezerk on him and they wanted me to get a PSA test right away. My PSA did go up a little, but not enough to be concerned.

I do not know the all answers to your questions, but a search on www.pubmed.gov may provide clues. For Testoerone replacement, most get 100mg/week or so. I am curious as to what your levels are under therapy. Large amounts of testosterone and estrogen can make the prostate bigger.

Thanks for the web site. The doc didn't do a test level this time around. I just left out of there with a script for test and deca lavitra, and the avodart. I will have him run one. I am not taking the avodart I went on just ask and a doctor said that that drug reduces your test levels. I like that site but you do pay for answers.

Many docs on that site are free. I have downloaded about 50 different articles so far since I found it. There are some that require cash, but I skip those. It could be the articles of interest to you unfortunately require a fee at this time.
