I need some help with my home network.

I have 2 PCs, both running Win XP, an MS wireless/4 port router, connected to the net via a cable modem. desktop is connected using one of the ports, laptop is using wirless card.

I can get on the net just fine with either device, but, I cannot see either of them on the network. I would like to be able to share files, and eventually get a printer setup too, etc. What do i need to do to get that set up? Seems to me it shouldn't be a hard thing to do. I have them both configged with the same workgroup name, and both are automatically assigned IP's.

what am I doing wrong?

Open Explorer and click thru network neighborhood to the other computer. If you're using the same account name on each computer you should see some default shares there, Printers & Scheduled tasks or something. If you do see that then you just need to share each computer's hard drive. Rightclick on the C:\ drive, choose sharing and follow along.
If you don't see the other computer it's probably a username thing.

i'm on my desktop right now, and I can only see the shares i have on this machine......so i need to have same username on both machines?

where do i change that?

They don't have to be the same but the other computer has to know who you are before it lets you in. You can use different names as long as each computer recognizes the names. Run the Network setup wizard to go thru making a share.
