att. airsoft players....let's talk rifles.

Steyr AUG or M4A1?? Looking at varying sites I've gotten varying information about both of them. What is stock FPS on these? And which one is better suited to upgrades??

refresh my memory....is the M4A1 a sub machine gun/a colt commando (M-16 with folding/retractable stock?)

id just go with the steyr, i dont know any of the guns airsoft details (got a book on there real ones) but

it has a scope
it looks cool
its bullpup so you wont get spotted with a long barrel sticking out and can still lock it into your shoulder (even though theres no/little recoil :) )

the M4A1's a sub machine gun though :)

no, the m4 is a full assault rifle....it's an m-16 variant. Now the airsoft version has some advantages over it's other airsoft brethren, but it has one glaring little annoyance which makes a lot of people not like it.

?

lousy to aim? bulky?

no, it has this module on front/top of the barrell which is supposed to be a "mock" laser pointer, it really just holds the battery. The problem with this is, when you install a scope, the top half of the battery port juts out into your view making a scope worthless. they've gotten creative with this though. Alot of people have either A. Made their own custom battery string which raps around the barrell, or B. attached an external battery somewhere along the stock. All of which is a pain in the ass and costs extra money to do. I haven't heard anything bad about the Steyr yet though, and it's one of the most accurate rifles because of it's barrell length. It's also cheaper, but I need to find out for sure about the respective upgrade paths of each gun.

cool....fighting each other is loads of fun....more accurate than paintball :D

ask diesel3d he knows about upgrades. also, check airsoft.org they have a discription of each weapon & info on how many fps each weapon gets. well, they did yesterday. they must have updated the site.

what do you mean by upgrade exactly? i think alot of airsoft tournaments have like 350 fps limits on how fast a semi automatic weapon can fire. most high end ($140 and up) sub machine rifles already fire that fast.

on another note, i think i've made my decision. the silver beretta 92F blowback gas powered semi auto handgun. 320 fps firing rate, and only about $50.

What kind of FPS do good airsoft guns get, and how do you know when someone's been hit? Is it the honor system or what?

i'm new to it but i'd say 250-350 is the average stock fire for a gas pistol or electric machine rifle.

you use the honor system. if someone doesn't they have to sit out the next round.

you're best off PMing diesel3d.

if you ask me, a tokyo marui model AEG (machine rifle) has the most upgrades at www.airsoftshop.com

however www.dentrinityshop.com (i looove research. so i am doing this for fun BTW)

says the muzzle velocity of the tokyo marui M4A1 is 286 fps. The
AUG is 286 for the receiver version, 282 for military AUG.

The DTS (den trinity special) M4A1 comes in 328, 350 & 400 fps but costs 2x as much.

you also have to take the bb weight into consideration. a .12 gram will go alot faster than a .25 gram.
